CONFEDERATES CAPTURED AT CEDAR MOUNTAIN, IN CULPEPER COURT HOUSE, AUGUST, 1802 The Confederate prisoners on the baleony seem to be taking their situation very placidly. They have evidently been doing some familylaundry, and liavc hung the results out to drj-. The sentries lounging beneath the colonnade below, and the two languid individualsleaning up against the porch and tree, add to the peacefuhiess of the scene. At the battle of Cedar Moimtain, August 9, 1861, theabove with otlicr Confederates were captured and temporarily confined in this county town of Culpeper. Like several other Virginiatowns, it does not boast a name of its own, but is universally known as Culpeper Court House. A settlement had grown up inthe neighborhood of the courthouse, and the scene was enlivened during the sessions of court by visitors from miles around.
