- The British Foreign Office confirms that hostage Kenneth Bigley was beheaded by his captors on October 7.
- HMCS Chicoutimi, one of Canada's four Victoria-class submarines, is being towed back to Faslane Naval Base in Scotland, four days after an onboard fire crippled the boat and killed one crew member.
