Enabel is the Belgian agency for international cooperation. Its mission is to work for a sustainable world where all people live under the rule of law and have the freedom to develop their full potential. Together with its partners, it provides solutions to urgent global challenges - climate change, urbanisation, human mobility, peace and security, social and economic inequalities - and promotes global citizenship.

It has more than 20 years' experience in fields ranging from education and healthcare to agriculture, environmental protection, digitisation, employment, peace and security. The federal agency's expertise is solicited all over the world - by the Belgian government, the institutions of the European Union, the private sector and the governments of other countries. It collaborates with companies, civil society players and research institutions, and encourage fruitful interaction between development policy and other fields.

With a staff of 2,100, Enabel manages some 170 projects in some twenty countries in Belgium, Africa and the Middle East.

In December 2023, the Belgian government mandated Enabel to launch a programme in support of reconstruction in Ukraine. This is recognition of the agency’s expertise in 'traditional' development cooperation. It also highlights its role as a facilitator and broker of Team Belgium public expertise.Through a 4-year reconstruction programme, with a budget of 150 million euros, Enabel will provide particular support in the areas of health and social protection, education and employment. These actions will focus mainly on the Chernihiv (north-east of the capital) and Kyiv regions.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors is Delphine Moralis and Jean Van Wetter is the Managing Director.
