A thick film produces no interference like a thin film does, because the coherence length soon becomes too long. Thus you get instead two reflections, increasing reflectance. Not to mention the first AR coating was produced by Fraunhofer in 1807, and evaporation deposition didn't arrive until the 1930s. You can't apply MgF2 to glass in liquid state. We're going to need some sources for this. Tag: Reverted
