This is a tricky one - there is a category for Category:Pulmonology journals which features most of the major publications in the field, but does not feature any of the ERS ones. Using the (admittedly controversial) Impact Factor metric, the European Respiratory Journal is currently ranked 4th among respiratory journals. I have a strong COI here but I also have a secondary reason for suggesting an expansion of the European Respiratory Journal's Wikipedia presence: it was founded in 1988 from a merger of two other journals. Many of the people involved are now retired, and it would be nice to try to collect some of the history before it is lost. (Longer-term question: is it ethical for the ERS staff to put out a call to ERS members to contribute to wiki pages about the society, as part of a history-collecting effort?)

Hi Mattbroadhead,

It sounds like there are a couple of issues here: 1) proper representation of ERS and its journal's presence and 2) recording the history of the organization.

When you say that Category:Pulmonology journals doesn't represent ERS journals, so you mean that there aren't any ERS journals in Wikipedia? Or, that they haven't been added to the category?

It makes sense to capture some historical information about the organization within the context of an encyclopedia, e.g., notable events, significant organizational changes, etc.

This isn't the right forum, though, to capture what sound to be an archive or source of detailed information and remembrances {See What Wikipedia is not). Have you thought about starting a web page or blog to do that?--CaroleHenson (talk) 10:21, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For the first question, I meant that there are no ERS journals in Wikipedia, which struck me as a gap, but one I was extremely wary of filling.
