Criticism of his citation practices[edit]

There has been some criticism of Matson's practice of copiously citing himself in his papers, and publishing in journals he is also the editor of: This mentions 21 self-citations in one page of one paper; this refers to 34 papers published in his own journals (in 2013); this breaks down the 64 citations in one of his papers -- 31 self-cites, 33 from own journals; this counts 90 papers by him since the 2007 founding of (one of) the journals he edits; this identifies 24 self-citations out of 36 in one paper, and & 33 out of 63 in another; this mentions a over 50% self-cited paper (in journal he edits); this categorizes 25 out of 50 citations as self-cites in yet another paper; this points out a paper quickly accepted (in less than 10 days) by his own journal, with 34 self-cites; this indirectly refers to a paper (in his own journal) with 25 self-cites; this categorizes 42 of 60 cites in a paper to his own journals; this counts 27 (of 44) self-cites in own journal paper; this counts 80 of his papers from one of his journals. I'm not sure how this should best be mentioned in the article, but I thought it worthwhile to bring it up on the talk page to try and get other views on the matter. This points out that, as of today, Matson has already gotten 4 papers published in the 2014 issue of one of the journals he edits. This appears unseemly, at best. JesseW, the juggling janitor 19:45, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
This points out that, in the 10 papers Matson has published (in 2014 so far') in the journal he is editor-in-chief of, he's cited himself 274 times. JesseW, the juggling janitor 05:14, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Also see this post on Dorothy Bishop's blog. Matson has the highest self-citation rate of any autism researcher and he is "an author on over ten percent of the papers published in RASD since 2007", the journal he edits himself. Bishop is a highly respected researcher and her blog is widely read — this is definitely notable and should be in the article. Posessvils (talk) 08:54, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
