Overinflated inauguration attendance[edit]

@SPECIFICO: The article is tagged as being too long. We do not need to give a paragraph to this specific example of Trump spreading misinformation when we already have plenty of other content explaining that he spreads misinformation. I would be fine with one sentence in the inauguration section of this article saying that he spread misinformation about the attendance numbers, but we currently give it too much emphasis. @SPECIFICO: The article is tagged as too long, and for good reason. There is no reason that our article on one U.S. President's presidency should be 10K words larger than our article on World War II. QuicoleJR (talk) 14:37, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This incident was about more than the spread of misinformation. WH spokesperson Kellyanne Conway coined a new term for falsehoods, "alternative facts", that is here to stay, both in the news and in comedy. This is [NBC's Chuck Todd interviewing Conway on January 22, 2021, when she first used the term and then started spinning the facts/falsehoods. Here she is five years later, saying in an interview on CBC that it was just a gaffe that she immediately corrected, another lie. (Background, if you're interested, the story of the Martin Luther King bust at the Oval Office that Conway is carrying on about in the NBC interview.)
