1985–2014 1985 5 Oct: Death of Cynthia Jarrett 6 Oct: Rioting breaks out on Broadwater Farm housing estate. 6 Oct, c. 10:00pm: PC Keith Blakelock killed. 7 Oct, 2 am: Det Ch Supt Graham Melvin placed in charge of murder inquiry. 7 Oct, 4 am: Police allowed onto the estate; forensic evidence gone. 11 Oct: Mark Pennant charged with murder. 13 Oct: Winston Silcott charged with murder. c. 16 Oct: Jason Hill charged with murder. Oct: Mark Lambie charged with murder. Dec: Engin Raghip charged with murder. 1986 Feb: Mark Braithwaite charged with murder. Feb: Silcott convicted of the 1984 murder of Anthony Smith. Dec: Home Secretary Kenneth Baker refers case back to the Court of Appeal. 1991 25 Nov: Convictions overturned. 1992 July: DCI Melvin and DI Dingle charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, and Melvin with perjury. 1994 26 July: Melvin and Dingle acquitted by unanimous verdict. 1999 March: Scotland Yard begin a case review. 2003 20 Oct: Silcott released after serving 17 years for the murder of Anthony Smith. Dec: Scotland Yard reopen the investigation; DS John Sweeney in charge. 2004 Sept: Archaeologists dig up garden, Willan Road, Broadwater Farm; retrieve possible murder weapon. Oct: Blakelock's overalls retrieved from Scotland Yard's Crime Museum. 2010 Feb–May: 14 men arrested on suspicion of murder. 2013 23 July: Nicholas Jacobs charged with murder. 2014 3 March: Jacobs' trial opens. 9 April: Jacobs acquitted.
