Colorectal Cancer Edits:[edit]
Presence of metastases is determined by a CT scan of the chest, abdomen and pelvis.[4] Other potential imaging tests such as PET and MRI may be used in certain cases.[4] Staging of the cancer is based on both radiological and pathological findings. As for all other forms of cancer, tumor staging is based on the TNM system which considers how much the initial tumor has spread and the presence of metastases in lymph nodes and more distant organs.[4]

Immunohistochemistry (corrected title)[edit]
In cases where a metastasis from colorectal cancer is suspected, immunohistochemistry is used to ascertain correct diagnosis.[5] Some proteins are more specifically expressed in colorectal cancer and can be used as diagnostic markers such as CK20 and MUC2.[5] Immunohistochemistry can also be used to to screen for Lynch syndrome, a genetic disorder with increased risk of colorectal and other cancers. The diagnosis of Lynch syndrome is made by looking for specific genetic mutations in genes MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2.[6] Immunohistochemical testing can also be used to guide treatment and assist in determining the prognosis. Certain markers isolated from the tumor can indicate specific cancer types or susceptibility to different treatments.[7]
** The only citation in this section was a narrative review article looking at the role of ASA in CRC prevention. This is not an appropriate source for this information. Nor did it actually include all the information attributed to it. I have included more appropriate citations. I have also reorganized this section to include the three major roles of immunohistochemistry - diagnosis of CRC, diagnosis of Lynch syndrome, and providing prognostic and treatment information. I removed the section on COX2 expression as this is not specific to colorectal cancer nor is it used as a test to characterise tumors. It could be included under pathogenesis sector if desired.
