1944 at age 11 began to play baseball with the Parichy Bloomer Girls of the National Girls Baseball League.

Invited to spring training in Cuba with the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, but refused that invitation, citing confusion over what would be involved. At age 14, however, she became a member and went on tour with them.[1]

1949-1950: played shortstop for the Chicago Colleens and later for the Springfield Sallies.

became known as "Peanuts Palermo" because of her slight build.
