Kant | 02:03 | |
Sapere aude, [1] dare to be wise. The ability to reason is the unique trait that sets man apart from animal. To deny one's reason is unthinkable. His moral theory is based on duty and not on goodness or consequence. He used categorical imperatives for determining whether an act is moral. One imperative is to treat no man merely as a means to an end, but rather as an end in himself. The other is that of universal law; always act in such a way that you can also will the maxim of your action should become a universal law. This would prevent exceptions to the rules e.g., the rationalization of white lies.[2] | ||
