William Cope Moyers
William Cope Moyers currently works as the vice president of foundation relations at Hazelden Foundation. Moyers leads the organization's development efforts as well as providing leadership for Hazelden's Center for Public Advocacy. Moyers carries Hazelden's message about addiction and recovery around the country, especially to policy makers and civic groups. He uses his own personal experiences to highlight the power of addiction and the power of recovery.
He received his BA degree in journalism from Washington and Lee University (Lexington, VA) in 1981. Before joining Hazelden in 1996, Moyers worked as a journalist for 15 years. He has worked at CNN, Newsday and various other newspapers around the country.
He is the author of the bestselling memoir, Broken, and a new journal/DVD set designed for individuals in early recovery called A New Day, A New Life. He has appeared on ''Larry King Live'' (CNN), Good Morning America (ABC), The Today Show (NBC), and the Oprah Winfrey Show. His articles have been published in The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times and Newsweek magazine.
Honors[edit]
The Gold Key award from National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (NCADD) was awarded Moyers and his family(1998). Arthur Liman Public Interest Award from the Legal Action Center was awarded to Moyers and his parents, Bill and Judith Moyers, for the work on advancing public understanding of public policy issues related to addiction.
