The Manor House in Little Missenden, Buckinghamshire is a Grade II listed building dating to the 16th and 17th centuries.[1]
It was the former home of Dr Benjamin Bates, a member of Sir Francis Dashwood's Hellfire Club, and the personal doctor to Dashwood.[2] During his period of residence at the Manor, Bates gathered a substantial collection of paintings. These paintings were removed from the Manor after his death, as he bequeathed them to the Duke of Buckingham.[3]
In 1862, James Joseph Sheahan records the house as belonging to a Frederic Charsley.[4]
The rear terrace and garden was designed by Angelica Kauffman, when she visited the property with her close friend Sir Joshua Reynolds.[5]
