Eugen Kubala (Czech pronunciation: [ˈɛʊɡɛn kʊbələˈ]; born 10 April 1987) is a Czech biochemist.[1] His research focuses on studying key cancer metabolic pathways using combination of dynamic nuclear polarisation and 13C magnetic resoncence imaging allowing non-invasive localisation of tumor and cancer treatment follow-up based on tumor metabolic activity in real-time.[2]

Early life[edit]

Kubala was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He is the first born son of Eugen Kubala, a clinical oncologist and Jana Kubalová (née Zatloukalová), a freelance accountant. Kubala has a younger brother Adam. He grew up in Řež, a small village in the suburb of Prague. At the age of 8 he applied to an Elementary School ZS Bohumila Hrabala in Libeň, Prague without telling his parents. At the age of 11, Kubala was accepted to an elite private high school Gymnázium Jaroslava Seiferta. At the age of 17, He spent a year as a foreign exchange student in United States and attended Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California.

Education[edit]

After he had finished high school, Eugen started with high expectations and enthusiasm to study a brand new cross-border study program of Biological Chemistry at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria and University of South Bohemia, Budweis, Czech Republic. Early after he started, he established a new communication platform between the two universities and students which helped him to become a student representative at the curriculum committee which he held until the finish of his diploma studies. Eugen received his diploma in Biological Chemistry in 2013 and both of the partner universities.[3] In the 2017 Kubala obtained his doctoral degree in chemistry at Technical University of Munich under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Steffen J. Glaser and Prof. Dr. med. Markus Schwaiger.[4]
