Associate Justice Fidel Purisima was relieved as 1999 Bar Chairman for failing to disclose that his nephew was one of the examinees who took that year's bar exam. He was censured by the Supreme Court, forfeited his bar chairman's fee, and was investigated by a Supreme Court special committee composed of retired justices.[1]
Associate Justice Ruben Reyes was the first retired Justice of the Supreme Court to be indefinitely barred from the practice of law and to be disqualified from holding any government position after he had leaked in 2009 an unpromulgated decision he had penned regarding the election case involving Negros Oriental Representative Jocelyn Limkaichong's citizenship.[2] His indefinite bar was, however, lifted in 2013 due to humanitarian reasons;[3] his disqualification from holding any government position was also lifted on 2014 by the Supreme Court.[4]
