The Money Coaching Institute (MCI) based in Petaluma, California, is a professional coaching and training company founded by Deborah Lynn Price in 2001. The MCI offers personal development and professional development training programs and behavioral money/financial coaching to individuals, couples and businesses. MCI also offers professional training and development for therapists, coaches, and financial services professionals. MCI’s training programs and certifications are all proprietary to MCI and represent the intellectual property developed by Deborah Price based on over 30 years of professional experience in the personal finance and coaching industry as well as decades-long evidence gathered from coaching sessions and training workshops conducted worldwide.
Price was a licensed financial adviser for over 20 years with several firms including Merrill Lynch, Mass Mutual Insurance and Financial Services (MassMutual), American International Group (AIG) and London Pacific Advisers based in Sacramento, California. She left the financial industry in 2001 to pioneer the field of behavioral money coaching.
Money Coaching is a step-by-step behavioral process that helps people move beyond their “hard-wired” money patterns and behaviors, and overcome financial challenges and psychological stress that can be obstacles to behavioral change necessary to achieve personal and financial success. The Money Coaching Institute was established to formalize the training and services necessary for individuals, couples and families to integrate principles of coaching psychology, personal finance and develop healthy financial behaviors. Money coaching has been described as “a new field and paradigm”, being “a bridge between two worlds – the financial services industry and coaching psychology [1].” As of mid-2019 the Money Coaching Institute has trained over 800 Certified Money Coaches (CMC’s)® in 33 countries including the USA, Canada, Singapore, England, France, Ireland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. A certified money coach is licensed to coach MCI methods within his/her private practice and community.
