Deletion discussion about James X. Zhang[edit]

Hello, Chicago run,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether James X. Zhang should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James X. Zhang .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, McDoobAU93 18:08, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your article James X. Zhang[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. When you moved this sub-page, you fell into a common trap by selecting "Wikipedia" rather than "(article)" from the drop-down list, so that it ended up with the "Wikipedia:" prefix used for pages about the encyclopedia's guidelines and workings, like Wikipedia:Your first article. I rescued it from there and moved it into the "mainspace" as an encyclopedia article, which I guess was your intention. However, there are two points I need to make:

  • Although it is not made as clear as it might be at sign-up time, Wikipedia is not a social-networking site like LinkedIn or Facebook for people to write about themselves. Although not forbidden, that is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at WP:Autobiography and the WP:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide.

As you will see from the notice above, your article has already been nominated for deletion. That starts a discussion, normally lasting seven days, at the end of which an uninvolved administrator will decide what to do, based not on a count of heads but on the arguments advanced in terms of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. You are welcome to comment there, but should declare your interest, and should first read the advice at WP:DISCUSSAFD.

I have not commented there myself, because I have no opinion one way or the other, but I have asked a colleague with much more experience in this area to look at the article and give his opinion. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:31, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
