Welcome![edit]

Hi Exotic necii! Great to see that you've gotten started on Wikipedia! Please create a user page (this is your own space so you can make it as simple, i.e. just writing "Hi! This is my user page." or as fancy as you would like to. Just click on your username (anything that does not have a page created yet is in red) and start it. Once you have a user page, it makes it easier for other people to leave messages for you on your talk page. This will help when working with the other members of your team. More on creating a user page here. Any questions, just ask. --Mozucat (talk) 21:37, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Neurotransmitters can be broken down and removed in three different ways. The first way is called re-uptake, which is re-absorption of the neurotransmitter into the neuron. Transporters are protein molecules embedded in the presynaptic membrane. They are able to pump neurotransmitter molecules from the synaptic cleft back into the presynaptic cells. The second way is called enzymatic degradation which special chemicals called enzymes break it down. The third way is called diffusion where the neurotransmitter is detached from the receptor and drifts out of the synaptic cleft, becoming absorbed by the glial cellsAn enzyme called acetylcholinesterase within the synaptic gap can break down acetylcholine making it inactive. The breakdown products are recycled. <ref>
