Pembrokeshire schools[edit]

You'll see I undid your latest edit on Pembrokeshire as it didn't have a reference. If you can find one (I couldn't) it could be reinstated. Cheers, Tony Holkham (Talk) 11:02, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

September 2018[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Tony Holkham. I noticed that you made one or more changes to an article, Pembrokeshire, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please provide a reference for new information. Thanks. Tony Holkham (Talk) 11:48, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pembrokeshire - Welsh language education[edit]

Dear Tony,

The source I used was the county Welsh Education Strategic Plan (2017 - 2020) which is a statutory document that is required by the Welsh Government. I also cross-referenced this with the current language page on the PCC education website. Hope that helps and you will be able to reinstate the changes. The current statement (164) is in my opinion is not very clear and I think the additions I made are clearer. Many thanks Geraint

Geraint, thanks for responding. Sorry if this sounds pedantic, but it's not the information you put in, or the way you expressed it, that causes a problem; it's the lack of a source that confirms your information. Is there a source online that does this, or is it some other published document? Either way, it needs to be in the article. Many articles get away with unsourced information, but Pembrokeshire is a Good article, so must be fully and reliably referenced. If you can give me the source, I can format it so that readers can access it. I skimmed the Welsh Education Strategic Plan (2017 - 2020) (not specific to Pembrokeshire) and couldn't find the Welsh medium information you quoted, but perhaps I missed it? Page and paragraph would help.
Also, I haven't seen the "PCC education website" that you mention - do you have a link to it? Specifically, it's this paragraph

Currently (2018) there are 15 Welsh medium primary schools in the county. There are also three dual stream schools, and two transition schools in Pembrokeshire. Four primary schools are classified as English Welsh schools(English medium schools with significant use of Welsh). In 2917/18, 22% of seven-year-old pupils were educated through the medium of Welsh. This figure is expected to rise to 25% by 2019/20.

and this:

(two of the secondary schools are 3-16 schools)

that need clear references. Cheers, Tony Tony Holkham (Talk) 15:59, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comments. I’m new to this. If you put Pembrokeshire WESP into a search engine you will be directed to a PDF with the county plan. The details of the language classification and number of schools in each category is at the top of page 5.
The list of schools is on the PCC website is Https://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/Pembrokeshire-schools
The top of the page gives an overview with the current number of schools and below are links to school lists. Hope this covers the points you raise. Geraint GPBevan (talk) 16:41, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The 3-16 details are on the link - schools list page 12. GPBevan (talk) 16:46, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Page 4 of thePembrokeshire WESP gives the percentages of Seven-year-olds that are currently educated through the medium of Welsh and the target for 2019/20. Thanks for your patients.
The url for the WESP is

Thanks for all that info. I hope to get on to it tomorrow. Don't worry about being new - we all were once. The important thing is to be open to discussion, which you are, so thank you for your patience, too. Let me know if I can help with anything else, any time. Tony. Geraint  Done I've re-inserted the information you found for Pembrokeshire#Education_and_health, with some minor copy-editing that I hope is OK with you. You'll see how I've referenced it (Ref 164), because access to some of the information is by automatic pdf download. Thanks for digging it all out in the first place. Cheers, Tony. Thanks for the advice. I can see where you are coming from in relation to sources. It will ensure I update my IT skills are updated in getting URL etc. A quick question. When you fill in the page that asks for the reason for the change does this automatically provide the source information at the bottom of the page? Once again thanks. Geraint GPBevan (talk) 08:47, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what you're asking here - do you mean the edit summary? Tony Holkham (Talk) 09:08, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If this is what you mean, then the answer is "no". References (or citations/sources, whatever you want to call them) should immediately follow the information in the main edit-text window, using the <ref> & </ref> enclosure tags. This then automatically puts them into the References section. Nothing in the edit summary has any effect on the main text that you are editing; it is there to explain simply to other editors what changes you are making, and you should always leave an edit summary. It's also a good idea to click the "Preview" button before you click "Publish" so you can check your changes before committing.
Editors often revert unsourced information, so it's best to get into the good habit of referencing as quickly as possible. There's no problem putting a bare url in between the ref tags until you get to grips with formatting the references.
I hope this was what you wanted to know. All the best, Tony Holkham (Talk) 12:07, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks that helps. Will try it out next time I add anything. Geraint GPBevan (talk) 12:16, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Another little tip: you don't need to start a new section on your talk page for each comment. The convention is to use a colon to indent, with an increasing number of colons for each new comment. That way, your talk page contents list just has one heading for each topic. I've taken the liberty of amending above to show you what I mean. Tony Holkham (Talk) 12:51, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
