Krista MacKinnon[edit]
Krista MacKinnon is a Canadian advocate for mental health and addiction recovery, public figure, and is most notable for being the founder and CEO of Families Healing Together. She currently works in Community Outreach for Muir Wood, a rehabilitation centre in Sonoma County, California.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Mackinnon was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and attended high school there. Krista received a social work diploma from Mohawk College and attended various higher learning centres in Ontario. At 16 years old, MacKinnon was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, but rejected her diagnosis. At 19, Krista had her first child and her second child at 25 with Christopher MacKinnon, the author of Canadian Sports Sites for Kids, however, she divorced Christopher in 2007. In 2011, Krista moved to Costa Rica with her two children, and had a third child there. In 2015, Krista moved to Santa Rosa, California, but shortly after evacuated from the Tubbs Fire, and went on to live in San Rafael, California with her husband and kids. She has worked in mental health recovery education, curriculum development, group facilitation and community organizing since 2003.
