Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Steven Sandler. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Actualcpscm (talk) 15:53, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

None of the material is promotional. These are factual statements about his publications and activities in the powerintegrity field. I don't understand what is promotional about the facts as they are stated. WCCAman (talk) 16:09, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Content on Wikipedia needs to be attributed to reliable sources, which you failed to do. This is especially true for biographies of living persons. Your additions also contained a lot of loaded language, which should be avoided. Wikipedia is not a place for your opinions or your own judgements (see WP:OR), even if you believe them to be based in fact. Content on Wikipedia needs to reflect what has been published in reliable sources neutrally and without bias.
Unsourced additions that depict the article subject in a particularly positive light and additionally violate WP:NPOV on a style level create a strong impression of promotional intent.
If you have a conflict of interest (like being a friend of the article subject or knowing them personally) or are being paid to edit, you are subject to additional editing requirements found at WP:COI and WP:PAID, respectively.
It's natural to be overwhelmed by the amount of policy, guidelines, and common practices in the beginning. If you're struggling to start, check out The Wikipedia Adventure, ask questions at the WP:TEAHOUSE, or feel free to ping me with any further concerns by including "{{ping|User:Actualcpscm}}" in your message. You can also read a more formal introduction at H:I. Nobody will get annoyed with you for asking lots of questions :) Actualcpscm (talk) 16:17, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, thanks for your interest in understanding what went wrong here! Actualcpscm (talk) 16:18, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
everything that i added i believe it relevant to the biography of Mr. Sandler. I would appreciate if you could just delete what is not ok. Its very hard to make a claim about someone's activities without citations but then the citations are considered advertising. So i don't know where to draw the line between proof of a claim and advertising. Its in the eye of the beholder. Most of the updates are useful and factual, so which are crossing the line? WCCAman (talk) 16:20, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Citations are not considered advertising if they link to appropriate sources. The only citation that you added was to the website of the subject's own company. This is not "in the eye of the beholder"; content on Wikipedia needs reliable sources (see again WP:RS). If you are not sure what that means, there are plenty of resources, like the ones I linked above, that I explain it better than I ever could.
I have deleted "what is not okay", which just so happened to be basically everything that was in that article, including content that significantly predates this discussion. No unverifiable content is okay on Wikipedia.
The line between proof of a claim and advertising is that the former complies with WP:RS, and the latter serves to draw attention to a website without providing encyclopedic value.
It appears that you have knowledge about this subject that goes beyond what is currently publicly available. That indicates you might have a conflict of interest. Again, I strongly suggest you read WP:COI, if nothing else to ensure that it does not apply to you.
On a related note, I have written an essay about editing workflows on Wikipedia that you might find useful. You can find it at WP:RTW. Be aware that essays such as this one are basically opinion pieces and not official policies or guidelines. Actualcpscm (talk) 16:33, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ok thanks. I will read and try to do better. WCCAman (talk) 16:45, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I submitted just a few additions, each with citations. Hopefully that will be acceptable. WCCAman (talk) 16:36, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's much better, thanks! MOS:LISTSOFWORKS sets out how a list of works should be formatted, I've gone ahead and fixed that. Again, feel free to ask for clarification or help with the policies and guidelines at any time. Actualcpscm (talk) 11:18, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
