Category:Scandals ending in -gate (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Association by name. Having an article name that ends in gate is not a defining characteristic. Vegaswikian (talk) 20:09, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - overcategorization by commonality of name. List article already exists. Otto4711 (talk) 20:58, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Rinkworks (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Delete as unnecessary eponymous category. Appears to be a category for a company that "has spawned" other entertainment websites. The talk page notes that the company's name is RinkWorks (with a capital W) so if by some chance this is kept it needs to be renamed. Lquilter (talk) 19:22, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest merging Category:Seibu Yūrakuchō Line to Category:Seibu Railway

The result of the debate was upmerge. Kbdank71 15:46, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Radio stations in Devils Lake (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Delete unneeded for the one entry, a template. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:23, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Unpopulated and excessively specific. Category:Radio stations in North Dakota is just fine. JPG-GR (talk) 19:26, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Possibly too specific but an editor (not me) is currently populating this category. - Dravecky (talk) 23:15, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete unless there is some significance for a Devils Lake-Langdon market. If kept, at a minimum, it needs renaming to include the state so that it is not ambiguous. Vegaswikian (talk) 03:51, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • An obvious case for upmerge. Peterkingiron (talk) 23:47, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • An upmerge would need to be manual since there is a Canadian station in the mix. Vegaswikian (talk) 06:49, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename to Category:Radio stations in Devils Lake, North Dakota for consistency with the parent article and category as well as geographical consistency across all such articles. (There are a number of similar renames pending with more to come.) - Dravecky (talk) 06:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • That suggestion may not work unless we annexed a part of Canada into North Dakota or we consider that a part of Canada is in the Devils Lake metropolitan area. Vegaswikian (talk) 01:20, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • I have no problem believing that a border city is covered by signals from the other side of the border. It's certainly common from U.S. state to U.S. state. - Dravecky (talk) 05:03, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upmerge per Vegaswikian. JPG-GR (talk) 02:30, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The following discussion is an archived debate regarding the category or categories above. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the debate was upmerge. Kbdank71 15:36, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Museums in Koka, Shiga (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Koka is a small city and has only one museum. This category has no expectation of expansion. Miho Museum should be categorized into Category:Art museums and galleries in Japan and Category:Shiga Prefecture in replacement. Umebo (talk) 12:20, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete/merge per nom. I notice there are a number of similar one-item categories in Category:Museums by city, from Japan and elsewhere. Regardless of the "wider scheme", I think this category should be restricted to cities with at least 3 or 4 entries - mostly only the major US & European cities use this category, but imagine what it would look like if every city piled in. Johnbod (talk) 18:15, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge - I also second Johbod's opinion about one-item categories for Japan. It seems that recently, many things have been subdivided by city without much need. A case could be made for the largest cities, but, that may even be overkill. At any rate, that is something for us to eventually discuss at WP:WPJ, and not here. Neier (talk) 12:24, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upmerge this and similar categories as nom, or to a regional category. Single article categories which cannot be populated are pointless. Peterkingiron (talk) 23:50, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upmerge per nom. Overcategorization. --MChew (talk) 07:36, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom and if possible implement Johnbod's suggestion w/o CfD for every single category. Pavel Vozenilek (talk) 11:02, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate was delete. Kbdank71 15:34, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Airport articles using Airport Infobox template (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Category is redundant. This information can be found using the What links here option on the templates page, and thus the category has no useful reason for existing. Thewinchester (talk) 09:11, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Delete Also a breach of WP:SELF in a rather major way. While such categories can come into existence for testing purposes or for setting up a bot to make changes for a very short period of time, this does not appear to be one of them. Self-referencing categories are useless for readers and do not translate to other content providers using Wiki content. Orderinchaos 08:12, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Comment I created the category so that a bot could output a count of the number of old articles using a template no longer in use (see: Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Maintenance/Backlog). I have no problem with it being deleted, for the above valid reasons, but I would appreciate and suggestions on an alternate way to get a count. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 21:28, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People of Recent Christian/Jewish Lineage (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Seems like a very odd category, and the description on the category page ("Category for notable people who have at least one Christian and at least one Jewish grandparent") doesn't really assert notability. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 07:04, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Ambiguous based on the title and not a defining characteristic. Vegaswikian (talk) 07:47, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete way too vague. How Christian or Jewish do you have to be & what does it matter. Never likely to be even 5% complete. Johnbod (talk) 13:07, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - I'm not certain what a Christian lineage would be, and this is way too "one-drop rule" parsing of ancestry to be defining on a group basis. --Lquilter (talk) 19:24, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - This is indeed a rather odd category. The creator appears to be a very new editor -- I'd love to know what he/she was thinking. I left a notice of the CFD on his/her talk page (using {{cfd-notify}} ), so maybe we will find out. Cgingold (talk) 06:48, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - Intermarriage between Christians and Jews in the past 150 years has been so common that this is potentially an enormous category. For it to be retained, some one needs to establish that this is a notable intersection. Accordingly, Weak delete. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peterkingiron (talkcontribs) 23:53, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. If we look at say Lenny Kravitz there is no evidence at all of the Christian side of things unless Bahamian-Americans are all Christian. In any case what about the 2 (possible) remaining grand-parents? Don't they get a look-in? -- roundhouse0 (talk) 21:54, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
