The result of the discussion was: Rename. Timrollpickering (talk) 20:54, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Propose renaming Category:Corn recipes to Category:Maize dishes
Nominator's rationale: Rename. "Dishes" is the usual term used, rather than "recipes" (see Category:Dishes by main ingredient). The parent category is Category:Maize, not Category:Corn, since "corn" is much more ambiguous. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:43, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Rename to Category:Corn based sweeteners, revisit if necessary. There's various proposals being touted but this is the one that combines the most elements. Timrollpickering (talk) 20:59, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Propose renaming Category:Corn syrup to Category:Corn sweeteners
Nominator's rationale: Speedy rename. Per creator's request. To be inclusive for a broader scope of articles. Tatterfly (talk) 16:29, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It should use the word "corn" and not "maize" because no one uses "maize" in their name. Have you ever heard of "high fructose maize syrup?" Tatterfly (talk) 21:51, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No one? "High fructose corn syrup" is far more common, but "high fructose maize syrup" gets over 20,000 ghits and is the primary name for the stuff in some countries. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:27, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Propose renaming Category:Cruisers of the Kaiserliche Marine to Category:Cruisers of the German Imperial Navy
Nominator's rationale: Rename. Consistency with the other category names in Category:Ships of the German Imperial Navy. FJS15 (talk) 07:19, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The article is titled Kaiserliche Marine. Either the other categories should be renamed to use that title, or the article should be renamed. No reason for the article and the categories to use different names in this case. Jafeluv (talk) 09:10, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I personally don't care either way - I would just appreciate if we would decide to use one or the other. --FJS15 (talk) 13:00, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename. Those are the same thing, and the rest of our categories use the "German Imperial Navy" form.--Mike Selinker (talk) 06:52, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion so a clearer consensus may be reached.

Category:Yellow Submarine (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Delete. What is this categorizing? Is it to do with The Beatles' song and/or film? I thought so, until I noticed also that Cádiz CF, USS Menhaden (SS-377), Quester I, and Villarreal CF are also categorized in the category. Then I realized—everything on the disambiguation page Yellow Submarine was simply placed in the category. This is not how categories are intended to work, as it groups unrelated subjects by shared name or nickname. Categories are not intended to act as disambiguation pages. Good Ol’factory (talk) 08:58, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose (as creator) – The category categorises everything to do with the song "Yellow Submarine". I just assumed those other things named "Yellow Submarine" were named after the song. If anything in the category is unrelated to the song, then it can be removed, but that is not a reason to delete the category. The category groups the several articles related to the song/film/album which would otherwise be unconnected category-wise. It may serve a useful purpose to some and it does no harm. McLerristarr | Mclay1 11:54, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete – this is a 'what links here' masquerading as a category. Occuli (talk) 11:59, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete categories are not disambiguation pages. 65.94.47.63 (talk) 04:57, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's right, they're not, including this one. If you'd read my comment, you'd see that it contains everything to do with Yellow Submarine, including things not called "Yellow Submarine". McLerristarr | Mclay1 07:54, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • The thing is, that's how the category is functioning—as a disambiguation page. There's nothing but a common name/nickname that connects, for example, Yellow Submarine (song) and Cádiz CF, but they are being categorized together. That's textbook WP:OC#SHAREDNAMES overcategorization and the kind of connection that is typically accomplished only through disambiguation pages. Good Ol’factory (talk) 09:16, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
        • The category also contains songs from the album Yellow Submarine, which are obviously not anything to do with disambiguation. I assumed the fact that they share a name is not coincidental, like everyone called "Matthew", but that they are all named after the song. Most of the category members are linked in Template:Yellow Submarine. I'll quite happily agree to removing the non-Beatles pages from the category but I think it's useful to group the related song, albums and film with a couple of other things, plus it does has room for expansion, especially if they ever make that 3D remake of Yellow Submarine (it's looking unlikely at the moment though). McLerristarr | Mclay1 10:23, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
          • In the past, we've had several discussions that have deleted categories that categorize songs by what album they appear on, and other discussions that have deleted categories that categorize songs by what film they appear in. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:19, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
            • Well, what if the category only contained every Beatles-related article which has a title containing the phrase "Yellow Submarine"? Is there anything wrong with that? McLerristarr | Mclay1 07:00, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is already a navbox for that. Delete, there are no other categories by album in Category:The Beatles songs. The defined purpose is an overlap of what is linked on Template:Yellow Submarine and the disambiguation page Yellow Submarine which, by our usual approaches, renders it both unclear and unnecessary. - Fayenatic (talk) 07:04, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Qatar–Turkey relations (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Delete. Contains only Qatar–Turkey relations; nothing else obvious to be added. Delete as unneeded if nothing else to add to the category presently. Good Ol’factory (talk) 08:35, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
