Category:1st National Assembly of Pakistan[edit]
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: merge all. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:57, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
- Propose merging:
- Category:1st National Assembly of Pakistan to Category:National Assembly of Pakistan
- added at relisting:
- Category:3rd National Assembly of Pakistan to Category:National Assembly of Pakistan
- Category:4th National Assembly of Pakistan to Category:National Assembly of Pakistan
- Category:7th National Assembly of Pakistan to Category:National Assembly of Pakistan
- Category:8th National Assembly of Pakistan to Category:National Assembly of Pakistan
- Category:9th National Assembly of Pakistan to Category:National Assembly of Pakistan
- Category:10th National Assembly of Pakistan to Category:National Assembly of Pakistan
- Category:11th National Assembly of Pakistan to Category:National Assembly of Pakistan
- Nominator's rationale: as well as the ones for 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th 10th and 11th National Assemblies of Pakistan. Empty or categories containing only one article. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 07:24, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion so a clearer consensus may be reached.
- Relisting comment: Note that in the previous listing at CfD September 19, the sub-categories were mentioned but not listed.
- Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:17, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Keep. Wouldn't this be the category architecture needed if someone wanted to work on Pakistan's parliament? It would be a good way to categorize members. Benkenobi18 (talk) 12:27, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Merge for now. If members were to be categorised like the UK ones in Category:MPs of the United Kingdom House of Commons, by Parliament, these would not be the right category names anyway; "Members of..." categories would be needed. If anyone wants to add lists of members, they might as well be added into these two-line articles rather than created as separate pages. It might be useful to merge the nominated categories not to the head category but to a new sub-cat Category:National Assembly of Pakistan by term as a sub-cat of Category:Legislatures by legislative term of office. – Fayenatic London 12:41, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Merge per London. Steam5 (talk) 03:59, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- Merge -- We can in due course have a "members" of category. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:18, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: I have found no other categories of musical-artist-by-recording-company, and I don't think that it is a WP:DEFINING characteristic. In the course of their career, musicians may release their works through many different companies, and this type of categorisation is a recipe for clutter. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:46, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: rename. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:50, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: this is all the category consists of. "location" is too vague Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:54, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Comment and suggestion Originally there were cities in this category as well, but Optigan13 removed San Jose, Oakland, etc. and put them under their respective counties. By itself, "by county" would not be very useful since few people outside the Area know which county each city is in. I recommend replacing this category with two new ones: Category:Buildings and structures in the San Francisco Bay Area by city (which should include towns as well) and Category:Buildings and structures in the San Francisco Bay Area by county. That way buildings in unincorporated areas are broken down, and yet users won't need to look up which county contains the city they're interested in. —Stepheng3 (talk) 17:32, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Rename per nom; as stated elsewhere, the "San Francisco Bay Area" is not governmentally recognized, but we have lots of categories based thereon. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 01:16, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: wouldnt this be a more logical name? Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:32, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose: it would not match the others in Category:Populated places in the United States by county, nor those of the higher category Category:Counties of the United States. Unless they are all to be renamed, it would be an unnecessarily longer name. – Fayenatic London 12:26, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- oppose again it seems that the category structure (parents, children, siblings) is not being looked at or honored when such nominations are made. Logic has nothing to do with it (for better or for worse); it is established patterns. Hmains (talk) 01:58, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose Rename While I do acknowledge that there are counties with the same name in different states (such as Union County), I don't think that there is any confusion that all the unincorporated communities in all of the places named Union County will be in one common category. The term "in the United States by county" adequately implies "in the United States by state and county" in fewer words and matches the titles of other corresponding categories in this same structure. Category:People from Harlem, New York[edit]
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: reverse merge, i.e. merge Category:People from Harlem to Category:People from Harlem, New York. BencherliteTalk 22:47, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:People from Harlem, New York to Category:People from Harlem
- Nominator's rationale: Both categories refer to people from the New York City neighborhood of Harlem, and the latter reflects the name of the main article. SnapSnap 00:03, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Merge but the other way to Category:People from Harlem, New York per Category:Harlem, New York (and category naming conventions for US places). Oculi (talk) 10:22, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Reverse merge and leave a redirect, per Oculi. – Fayenatic London 12:29, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- Reverse merge per name of higher category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:10, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- reverse merge to match parent category Category:Harlem, New York and to match US naming conventions. Hmains (talk) 02:02, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
- Reverse merge per Oculi, and leave a redirect. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 07:27, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. The article is at Harlem, not Harlem, New York (and because it is not a separate city but a neighborhood, the naming would be Harlem (New York). Cats follow the article; try seeing if the editors there would stomach a move. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 01:18, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- Support Merge per Nom The category world far too often tries to impose its own arbitrary and narrowly formed rules on the rest of Wikipedia, and this is an excellent example. As Carlossuarez46 points out above, Wikipedia consensus is that the article's title is Harlem, one word only without any disambiguation needed in compliance with the US naming convention for places. If our goals are to make Wikipedia easier to use and more consistent, then when we create or see "People from..." categories, we should all be able to simply deduce that the place listed in the category is an exact match for the name of the article. So Category:People from Harlem, New York should mean that the corresponding parent article is Harlem, New York, but that is simply not the case. Arbitrary inconsistency that is deliberately in conflict with broader Wikipedia consensus standards only multiplies confusion. Alansohn (talk) 16:04, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
- Reverse merge. The category namespace is not the same as article name space so naming can be different. Adding the extra clarify in category names does not hurt anything and can help many readers. While matching the category and article names is desirable, it is not required and there are many cases when doing so is ill advised. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:39, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
