Category:Sri Lankan knights[edit]

The result of the discussion was: Rename. The parent categories were considered in making the decision and clearly they supported the proposal. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:48, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon before 1972. British honours were only awarded prior to 1956. obi2canibetalk contr 17:15, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Don't Change: There are several Sri Lankan citizens who have been awarded knighthoods since then. As Sri Lanka is Ceylon, as the country was renamed in 1972 without any geographical changes.Cossde (talk) 17:18, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please check your facts. Only states which have the British monarch as head of state can receive British honours. The British monarch is not the head of state of Sri Lanka and therefore Sri Lankan citizens cannot receive knighthoods. People of Sri Lankan origin may receive knighthoods if they are citizens of UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc but then they should be listed under the respective categories, not this category.--obi2canibetalk contr 18:09, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per our normal practice. For example Sir Muthu Coomaraswamy died in 1877 but is in "Sri Lankan" categories as a lawyer, politician, Hindu, civil servant etc. Why should this be different? Johnbod (talk) 13:38, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Because all the recipients were Ceylonese nationals when they were knighted. The parent categories are Category:British knights by nationality (they were Ceylonese), Category:Knights by country (they were from Ceylon) and Ceylonese recipients of British titles.--obi2canibetalk contr 20:00, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom. We generally categorize people by the polity they were part of (see Category:Ottoman people and its sub-cats). With Ceylon to Sri Lanka, since this is just a name change, there is little argument for it in most cases because it would create lots of people in both categories, but with this example, since Sri Lanka was never under the Monarch, we are best off renaming to reflect how things actually were.John Pack Lambert (talk) 17:25, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Rename. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:41, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Most versions of English treat "infrastructure" as an uncountable noun, i.e. no "s' at the end. Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 08:13, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. This category has some subcategories that should not be subcategories of this, e.g. Category:Roman Catholic cathedrals in the Philippines‎. Many Cathedrals (e.g. Manila Cathedral are not from Spanish colonial era. I'm not sure how to change that. Please advise. --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 08:13, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:02, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: To match parent page Honolulu County, Hawaii. On Wikipedia, "Honolulu, Hawaii usually means the city, not the county. Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 05:51, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • do not change Neighborhoods are a subdivision of cities and never of counties. When we have populated places that are both cities and counties, the categories normally associated with cities are given city names, while the categories normally associated with counties are given county in their name. Hmains (talk) 03:17, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Honolulu County, Hawaii is a exemption, dispute being a consolidated city-county it's title is "Honolulu County, Hawaii" not "Honolulu, Hawaii" (the Honolulu, Hawaii article is about the CDP within the city-county). If you want to change that, this is not the place to do it; take it to talk:Honolulu County, Hawaii. If you object to the term "Neighborhoods" being in the title, you can propose that it be changed to "Unincorporated communities in in Honolulu County, Hawaii", Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 08:45, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Never is rather harsh especially when you have unincorporated areas. These populated palaces do have neighborhoods (commonly called planned communities) even if they are not in a city. So

Support as we can have both if that is appropriate. Vegaswikian (talk) 02:53, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We have Category:Neighborhoods in Arlington County, Virginia. Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 20:32, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a silly technicality, Honolulu, Hawaii is an unincorporated city in Honolulu County, Hawaii, it is not coterminous with the county (despite the county being a consolidated city-county). This is like if "Category:Neighborhoods in New York City" were named "Category:Neighborhoods in Manhattan"; just as Manhattan is only one part of New York City, Honolulu is only one part of Honolulu County.
I have no opinion on your "Neighborhoods on Oahu" counterproposal. Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 20:29, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename to match how articles are named. If people disagree with article names, they can nominate them for change, but for now we should match category names to article names.John Pack Lambert (talk) 17:30, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: No consensus. Vegaswikian (talk) 02:44, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category contains (or should contain) articles about vehicles, not articles about weapons (e.g. missiles) as they are categorized elsewhere. "Air defence vehicle" is the wording of several subcats (e.g. Category:Air defence vehicles of Russia). Note: The renaming would extend the category scope to include vehicles that carry radars (but not weapons) and air-defence command posts - the subcats already contain at least one such article. DexDor (talk) 04:49, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment a non-self-propelled piece is also a "vehicle" if it is mobile, and not a fixed emplacement, such as a towed unit. -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 03:06, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: withdrawn by nominator. – Fayenatic London 22:13, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: There's nothing wrong with this category per se, but a glance at Category:Armoured fighting vehicles of World War I shows that this is the only country with such a category. The category contains 3 articles - one of which should be moved up to parent cats Category:World War I military equipment of Italy, Category:Armoured fighting vehicles of Italy and Category:Armoured fighting vehicles of World War I. This is part of tidying up a complex category structure. DexDor (talk) 04:44, 14 July 2013 (UTC) Withdrawn by nominator (see below). DexDor (talk) 21:06, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: I have formed equivalent cats for France, Germany, and the UK, so the above premise no longer applies (see Category:Armoured fighting vehicles of World War I. Please withdraw this CFD. MatthewVanitas (talk) 06:01, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
