The result of the discussion was: Rename/Merge. Timrollpickering (talk) 00:28, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: per San Jose Earthquakes (1974–88). Plus the old NASL team is the same franchise which is a clear case of overcategorization. – Michael (talk) 19:23, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. – Michael (talk) 19:35, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom - one team which changed its name, no need for seperate categories. GiantSnowman 13:23, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: do not rename (article was moved back to Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:08, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Article was moved from Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha to St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha on 12 May 2013 without an RM request so probably best not to move this speedily. Tim! (talk) 19:19, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Delete. Timrollpickering (talk) 00:29, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category serves only to promote projects that use a certain product or service. Do we categorize the DJ's who use Macbook Pro laptops? ViperSnake151  Talk  19:18, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete kill this one with fire. We don't categorize people-by-products-they-use, nor software-by-software-it-includes. delete. --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 04:04, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Keffiyeh[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete per creator request.--Mike Selinker (talk) 17:26, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Contains only one image.-- Mike Selinker (talk) 14:20, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Delete category. I created the category in 2007. It looks like the main article in the category was Keffiyeh. That article looks better categorized now. I suggest deleting this category. The remaining image (File:Sabaa Nissan Militiaman.jpg) is now on the Commons in commons:Category:Keffiyeh, and so it does not need to be categorized here in the same category. So this category is now basically an empty category, and can be deleted. --Timeshifter (talk) 16:37, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, per creator request, I'll just delete this.--Mike Selinker (talk) 17:26, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Virginian Wikipedians[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: Rename. Timrollpickering (talk) 00:30, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: For all other locations in this region, the format is Category:Wikipedians in X Place. This one should be renamed for parallel structure and to prevent confusion. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:26, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wrote too quickly. It seems that these Wikipedians identify with the place Virginia, and may or may not be there. Some other states have similar categories but most states do not. I still wonder if this is an appropriate name. "Wikipedians interested in Virginia" and "Wikipedians in Virginia" might be two category names which would cover everything necessary. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:29, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as is: Place-related categories seem to use demonyms. See "Category:Wikipedians by ethnicity and nationality". Illegitimate Barrister (talk) 16:47, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is already a Category:Wikipedians interested in Virginia. Besides, "Virginian" is a noun, at least in American English.64.125.143.140 (talk) 17:31, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom. We never use the denonym for states. We always use from/in.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:35, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename everything should remove demonyms, they cause endless confusion in many cases (ie) "English Wikpedians" would be people from England, or ethnic English or descent from Anglo Saxon stock or English speakers? -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 23:09, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom. --Lenticel (talk) 07:25, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom. WP has veared away from using denonymns except for nations. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:53, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Bus drivers by nationality[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: Delete. Timrollpickering (talk) 00:33, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The articles in these categories are not about people who are notable for being bus drivers. I think the Asher Weisgan article is the one with the closest link between being a bus driver and the reason for notability, but he did not become notable as a bus driver - he only became notable when he was a murderer. "Category:Venezuelan bus drivers" was deleted by this CFD. DexDor (talk) 05:44, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - Usually we are striking categories because they are not "defining" for the people involved. The question of whether we should strike categories because they do not capture the thing for which someone is notable is actually a much broader standard. For instance, Barack Obama is notable as the President; he was previously notable as Senator. Do we eliminate all the other categories because he is not notable for those things? He is not notable for his year of birth. ... We usually categorize people along four separate axes: (1) time period (birth/death); (2) nationality; (3) profession; and (4) cause of notability (which is often but not always profession). These things are considered to be the defining category for that person. If we switch from "defining for that person" to "cause of notability" that's going to really shift the standard. Or is this proposal to just eliminate profession if it's not the notable profession? --Lquilter (talk) 13:08, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • That is the standard, see WP:COP#N; exceptions are made for "people from", "year of birth", and a few others Carlossuarez46 (talk) 16:49, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete OK, in the professions department, we have a mass murderer, a footballer, a singer, a mental health activist, and a (heroic) bus driver. OK, the murderer and the activist also worked significant periods as bus drivers too, but I wasn't aware that we categorized murderers by profession. Even if this is kept we can collapse this into a single "bus drivers" category, but even at that two of the five present members don't belong. Mangoe (talk) 15:04, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom and fails WP:COP#N. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 16:49, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete -- I think we have had something like this before, and they were all NN when bus drivers, but rose through the unions to become politicians. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:55, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Delete. Timrollpickering (talk) 00:33, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: These categories are not part of the aircraft categorization scheme (same reason as the previous CFD for Cold War aircraft which these cats escaped by not being in "Category:Military aircraft of the Cold War"). DexDor (talk) 05:29, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Légion d'honneur recipients. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:02, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Delete. OC#AWARD. Well at least by country in this case. I think this is for members of Category:Légion d'honneur recipients from Iran. Given the size of the parent, I expect that to be nominated at some point in the future. Vegaswikian1 (talk) 04:59, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- This is not a minor award. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:56, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete The requirement to keep is not to just be "a major award", it needs to be a thing so significant that it becomes a seperate point of notability. I really thing we should dismantle the categories for awards like this. Too many people have gotten multiple awards like this and it leads to huger amounts of category clutter.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:39, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge to parent category. No, this is not a minor award, but this subcatregory is one of only two break-out by nationality. Obviously, the majority of award recipients are French, but I see no reason why there should exist subcats for Iranian and Kiwi recipients. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:36, 30 May 2013 (UTC)----[reply]
