Nominator's rationale: Too little content to justify an eponymous category —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:26, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. (NAC) Armbrust The Homunculus 15:07, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Rename. Simple: truce redirects to ceasefire, so we should standardize the category name. I am a but uneasy about what to do with the Category:Truces of Poland - keep or rename? - given all entries there are "True of...". • Comment -- I am not sure that they are quite the same thing. The truce in the middle of the Dutch 80 years war was considerably more than a mere ceasefire. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:22, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and create the ceasefires category. I think of ceasefires as temporary cessations of fighting, whereas truces are a conclusive end to a period of fighting. No reason why we can't have a category on each subject. SFB 19:55, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename. They are essentially the same thing, and since the redirect in article space reflects this, the category name should follow. Truces are not conclusive ends to fighting, as suggested. The relevant OED definitions are as follows:
truce: A suspension of hostilities for a specified period between armies at war; a temporary peace or cessation from arms.
ceasefire: A (temporary) suspension of hostilities; an agreement made to effect this; a truce.
I think these definitions make it clear that we're essentially dealing with the same thing with both words. And differentiation between the two, if it needs to be made at all, should be made first in article space. So we should rename the category and include a category redirect on the nominated category. • I'll switch to support the rename on this basis. SFB 03:15, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
