Category:BCCMA[edit]
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename, without prejudice to a further nomination for deletion along with the subcats. – Fayenatic London 11:03, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:BCCMA to Category:British Columbia Country Music Association
- Nominator's rationale: Rename. Resolve acronym, match main article. Le Deluge (talk) 22:46, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- May want to also determine if its subcats aren't overcategorization by award. Otherwise, this and the subcats should be renamed. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 02:58, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete -- The two subcategories offend against WP:OC#AWARD and need to be listified as a single list in the main article. This is the normal outcome for award winners categories. Lists do the job much better than categories as they place the winners in date order. Once the two subcats have been removed there will be nothing but a main article, which is not enough for a cateogory. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:41, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Speedy Per WP:C2D, Facilitating concordance between a particular category's name and a related article's name. Open to expanding the nomination and deleting the whole tree based on WP:OCAWARD. RevelationDirect (talk) 12:01, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Category:Medieval Russian Orthodox church buildings[edit]
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename. – Fayenatic London 11:09, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT, it contains only one child category. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:31, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Question -- While this may be poorly populated at present, is there not a substantial potential population out there? Peterkingiron (talk) 18:36, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- I found three more, I guess that'll be all. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:16, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose There is enough content here if we upmerge the child Category:15th-century Russian Orthodox church buildings. Also, the exact century of construction is much less of a defining feature of historic Russian Orthodox church buildings than the grouping of such buildings in the wider period (Medieval) instead. This also solves the more arbitrary problem that a church built in 1499 will be linked to one built 1401, but not one built in 1501. I don't find yearly divisions on such narrow topic areas of much use at all. Historic period is a much better choice. SFB 19:56, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- If nominated, I will support this merge. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:13, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- I found all medieval Russian churches back in a category that wasn't in the tree of Category:Russian Orthodox church buildings, they were namely in Category:Eastern Orthodox church buildings in Russia. The reason for this split is on the one hand technically correct, because the Russian Orthodox Church exists independently from Constantinople only since the 15th century. But on the other hand I find it very confusing to categorize medieval church buildings of a single country in two different categories even in two different trees. So therefore I've parented Category:Medieval Russian Orthodox church buildings to Category:Eastern Orthodox church buildings in Russia as well. Which means:
- Withdraw merge proposal.
- Instead propose rename Category:Medieval Russian Orthodox church buildings to Category:Medieval Eastern Orthodox church buildings in Russia, C2C to its new parent Category:Eastern Orthodox church buildings in Russia, since the Russian Orthodox Church didn't exist yet during the larger part of the Middle Ages. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:47, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Support rename. There's far more logic in having a parent cat reflecting the name of the current nation-state it is located in at the end of the title, rather than attributing a contemporary nation-state's name to the style. This would also be true of various styles of architecture (religious or otherwise) where borders have changed dramatically and Empires the buildings were erected by have, themselves, disappeared (i.e., Ottoman Empire, Prussian, Roman, etc.). --Iryna Harpy (talk) 00:43, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Rename. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:43, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Xerography to Category:Xerox art
- Nominator's rationale: Rename. It's clear that the creator (not me!) intended this cat to be about Xerox art rather than the original process of Xerography, although the former is sometimes called the latter. The new name would resolve this ambiguity as well as following the article name. Le Deluge (talk) 21:29, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Category:Universities in Uganda[edit]

- The result of the discussion was: rename. – Fayenatic London 11:16, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Universities in Uganda to Category:Universities and colleges in Uganda
- Nominator's rationale: Rename. As below, to fit in with hierarchy of Category:Universities and colleges in Africa Le Deluge (talk) 12:00, 25 March 2015 (UTC) [edit:Looking at that hierarchy, it's a real mixture of just "universities" and "universities and colleges". I suspect that just reflects the fact that HE colleges have less coverage on Wikipedia and tend not to eg have categories of their own as parents for eg alumni, faculty etc. Plus there's the potential for confusion with the use of "college" at secondary level, although that's not widespread? Anyone fancy nominating other "university" only members of Category:Universities and colleges in Africa ?? Le Deluge (talk) 12:06, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep – they are all universities and it is part of Category:Universities by country. I don't see any problem with the present name. Oculi (talk) 12:14, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Comment - no they are not "all universities", Law Development Centre is a specialist law college, not a university. The likes of Uganda Management Institute and Kigumba Petroleum Institute are degree-awarding institutions that aren't universities. But they all get lumped into a Universities category because there isn't anywhere else. It's true that in most continents a Universities in X category is a subset of Universities & colleges in X, but we only have a Category:Universities and colleges in Africa and not a Category:Universities in Africa. If people want to change that then go ahead, this just seemed the easier option... Le Deluge (talk) 19:47, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Alternative just create a new Category:Colleges in Uganda and a new parent Category:Universities and colleges in Uganda on top. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:56, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- There's no Category:Colleges in Africa hierarchy - and from a quick look I can't see any other African countries adopting a Colleges in X format. However most of them adopt parallel categories of the form Category:People by university or college in Uganda etc. As I say, I'm just trying to go with what seems to be the general direction in Category:Universities and colleges in Africa - I'd invite people just to have a look around there to get a feel for it. Le Deluge (talk) 00:22, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- You can parent the new Category:Colleges in Uganda to Category:Colleges by country, which would be similar to the existing Category:Colleges in South Africa. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:44, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Rename per nom. No one in opposition has explained why the non-universities in the category are so inherently different to not be allowed in the same category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 06:57, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- Rename per nom. The universities and colleges tree is mixed. Some countries have their categories split, and others have a single category for both. I don't think it's really necessary to split into colleges and universities, though. They work just fine in the same category. kennethaw88 • talk 15:16, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Rename. Fits in with the rest of the hierachy of Category:People by university or college in Uganda etc - and previously it was just universities, I've just added a specialist law college. Le Deluge (talk) 11:52, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Rename per nom. We rarely if ever split this type of category into specific categories for universities and for other tertiary educational institutions.John Pack Lambert (talk) 15:19, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Rename. In line with other members of Category:Private equity portfolio companies. Le Deluge (talk) 10:27, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete a company's investors are not defining for the company. Some of these like airbnb have tons of investors, the fact that Andreessen has some shares in his portfolio is not defining. Are we going to airbnb in Category:Ashton Kutcher's portfolio too? Also, does this category apply after Andreessen divests, or is this a temporary category? Yes, there are other cats, but WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS is no reason to not start pruning here. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 19:39, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete That company A invests in company B is not defining to company B. This might be useful as a list, but not as a category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 15:21, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Category:Detroit Tech football players[edit]
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Detroit Institute of Technology alumni and Category:College football players in the United States. MER-C 12:44, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT, the college is closed and the category only contains 1 article. The last time Detroit Tech fielded a football team was in 1951 and it doesn't seem to have been prominent then, so there's little chance for growth. RevelationDirect (talk) 01:00, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Note: Notified Mickeykoz as the category creator and this discussion has been included in the Detroit Task Force. – RevelationDirect (talk) 01:00, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Background: This category was nominated for renaming 5 years ago but no one was able to find the team's name.RevelationDirect (talk) 01:00, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Although it's neither here nor there, they were apparently the "Detroit Tech Dynamics." See this snippet from The Blue Book of College Athletics, as well as this newspaper article for confirmation. Andrew Jameson (talk) 15:06, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! I updated the DIT article.RevelationDirect (talk) 22:51, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

- Support, also merge to Category:College football players in the United States.Marcocapelle (talk) 06:16, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Support double merge - obviously appropriate. Peterkingiron (talk) 13:28, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Support Clearly not a useful navigational aid. The one article is better placed among its fellow alumni articles. SFB 19:58, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Upmerge per nom and Peterkingiron. I would note that there are several sister cats under Category:College football players in the United States with just one entry. I would think some others might be worth upmerging.John Pack Lambert (talk) 07:00, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
