Category:Retrogaming[edit]

The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:36, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Retrogaming is "the playing or collecting of older personal computer, console, and arcade video games in contemporary times". Categorizing games that are played/collected as retrogaming is not a defining characterstic of those games, and is highly WP:OR/WP:POV. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:22, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Actually the definition is not "the playing or collecting of older personal computer, console, and arcade video games in contemporary times" that is written no where on the page or in the description. It is a category for video games that were produced in ANY YEAR but are no longer produced today, and therefore must be played on their original systems, ie Pong or Asteroids. It is a category I based off Retrogaming. Its not my POV, but fact that the games and platforms have been discontinued. MBlairMartin (talk) 19:36, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
"Retrogaming is used to describe any video games that are not currently being produced and are played on obsolete or discontinued platforms in modern times". Let's break it down.
  • "Retrogaming is used to describe any video games". Really? Any video game that fits that description?
  • "that are not currently being produced". What does "produced" mean? Like being sold? Or pressed? Or is available at all?
  • "and are played on obsolete or discontinued platforms". The PSP is discontinued. You think we should incorporate its massive library of games?
  • "in modern times" - which means 2016 I guess?
The category lists Q*bert, which saw a rerelease in 2007 on PSN for PlayStation 3. Playing Max Payne 2 on PlayStation 2 is retrogaming too I guess. This is all WP:OR, an arbitary collection of video games. A better category name would be Category: Games that have been played in the past and are still played. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 21:02, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ive already answered on the WikiProject: Video Game page but, fine, Delete the Category. It is obvious to me that continuing to argue is pointless. MBlairMartin (talk) 21:12, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Change the scope to topics related to retrogaming, so that it can be populated with articles such as Retrogaming, Retro Gamer, maybe Retro Game Challenge, etc. This could be a useful endeavor for those interested in retrogaming as a topic. ~Mable (chat) 09:08, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - per nomination, and discussion that preceded this at WP:VG. Its very difficult to define "retrogaming" in the same way that we don't use "classic rock" as a genre in music articles - its very difficult to define or create cut off points. Sergecross73 msg me 20:50, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete this is entirely opinion based and I fail to even see the intended purpose. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 03:11, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per comments I made at Wikiproject discussion. --The1337gamer (talk) 17:03, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge Category:Newtown F.C. players to Category:Newtown A.F.C. players to match Newtown A.F.C. Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:39, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Duplicate category - also exists Newtown F.C. Zanoni (talk) 17:07, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I'll put the articles in Category:Christianity in Campania and Category:Province of Salerno also, as suggested. Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:42, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. The subject of the category is an iteration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel confined to the town of Pagani, Italy. Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 20:56, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • How so? Are those subjects sufficiently notable that they require categorization as opposed to say, Nocera Inferiore, which has its own diocese? - Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 11:53, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't understand the comment either. Why isn't Our Lady of the Hens part of Christianity in Pagani? Marcocapelle (talk) 05:36, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete category -- This is essentially about a local church in Pagani, Campania and its festival. I would suggest that the article on the church should appear in Category:Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the article on the festival should be merged to the article on the town. The target appears to be hosting articles sharing a name, which is strictly not allowed, but I assume that they all have some connection with the Carmelite Order, which makes it just about permissible. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:35, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Category:Christianity in Pagani has been upmerged, which could have some impact on this discussion moving forward.

Nominator's rationale: Template which populated this category no longer does so, per Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2016 August 18#Template:No documentation. (Now populates Category:Templates with missing or incorrect documentation) Cabayi (talk) 15:22, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Moved the category myself. Alex|The|Whovian? 06:38, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Now that there is Category:Episode lists with faulty line colors, I think this should be renamed to more accurately reflect what it's about. nyuszika7h (talk) 11:01, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agreed. Given that it was me who created the "faulty"-named category, I didn't even think about how "invalid"-named category wasn't actually specific as to its use anymore. Top job to Nyuszika7H for thinking of this! Alex|The|Whovian? 11:51, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
