August 4[edit]

Category:Courtroom dramas[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: split to Category:Courtroom dramas, Category:Courtroom drama television series and Category:Courtroom drama plays, Category:Courtroom novels and Category:Courtroom films. @Bearcat: please go ahead. – Fayenatic London 21:23, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Category which indiscriminately lumps films, television shows, novels and theatrical plays together specifically on the basis of a courtroom setting. While this may be a perfectly valid genre subcategory within the plays, television series, drama films and/or novels trees, it is not a criterion that cuts across all of those different kinds of content as a suitable basis for a single catchall category. Note that Category:Courtroom films already exists as a subcategory, so I haven't included it as a new target here, although some things filed in this category will have to be diffused into it. The result of the discussion was: rename. xplicit 04:29, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Following Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2017_June_28#Medieval_crimes, the medieval categories have been broadened from "crimes" to "crime", and it seems appropriate to rename the category for the ancient period likewise. It already contains Category:Ancient criminals, but that one's other parent Category:Criminals is in the Category:Crime hierarchy rather than Category:Crimes. – Fayenatic London 21:45, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. xplicit 04:29, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: should match parent category Category:San Juan Jabloteh F.C. and article name San Juan Jabloteh F.C. Joeykai (talk) 19:51, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. – Fayenatic London 21:51, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename category to match with the recently renamed main article BinckBank Tour which is the name that is on the tour's website. A speedy nomination was declined. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:14, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 07:07, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Small one-county community with just two entries, one of which is a redirect and questionable. Does living one's last years in a town's nursing home make them from there? ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 15:44, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. xplicit 04:29, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:NONDEF, most of the articles don't even mention this label at all. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:46, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment -- This has the feel of an AWARD category to me. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:35, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Delete Per WP:OCAWARD How could this list of possible winners ever be defining?: "buildings, documents, museums, archives, monuments or events which are seen as milestones in the creation of today's Europe" RevelationDirect (talk) 01:37, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete non-defining to the things so categorized.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:36, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Inventions by country[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus. xplicit 04:29, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Clarification still needed - What are our criteria for an "invention by country"? This has festered on for years and we're no better off. These categories are still no more than a playpen for POV nationalist socks. Is a "Croatian invention" one in Croatia, by a Croatian, by a Croatian ex-pat, or by someone with Croatian ancestry a century earlier? Is sourcing required for these claims? Or is WP:V to be ignored for these? Andy Dingley (talk) 22:26, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • If it has been discussed before, please provide the links to the previous discussions. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:29, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The closure of the previous discussion seems to make sense. Please propose a rename or delete. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:27, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But such a statement needs more authority behind it than just one editor's footnote. The long-running sock wars won't be deflected by that. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:52, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: The CFD banner & link was on the talk page; now moved to the category page

  • Comment -- There are a number of category trees where the inclusion criteria is not 100% clear (e.g. "People from..." categories) so I would think we just need to use common sense. If there is a questionable inclusion it can be discussed on the relevant article's Talk page. There doesn't seem to be a proposal to delete, rename or merge here anyway! Ancient decades by country[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. xplicit 04:29, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Note on implementation: this required changes to the templates {{EstcatCountryDecade}} and {{DisestcatCountryDecade}}. – Fayenatic London 07:28, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

more decades by country
more establishments by decade and country
more disestablishments by decade and country
Nominator's rationale: upmerge per WP:SMALLCAT, as a mere housekeeping nomination. After this discussion and this discussion the content of ancient decades by country has mostly been reduced to just one (Roman/Byzantine Empire) subcategory. So we no longer need a by-country layer for decades. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:16, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- Can we get rid of the "continent" twig as well? Peterkingiron (talk) 16:35, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
