The result of the discussion was: no consensus. I will add a redirect at Category:Cinn Comhairle. – Fayenatic London 12:58, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: To use the actual title of the post: "Cinn Chomhairle" is the plural of Ceann Comhairle, and as a set category (WP:SETCAT) this should take the plural form.
The current descriptive title is accurate, but it is unnecessarily verbose, and will be confusing to readers who have any familiarity with Irish politics. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:30, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes but keep category-redirect, as this is a plausible search term for those of us less familiar with Irish politics. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:23, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - while grammatically correct, it will be baffling for 99.9999% of wikipedia readers who don't speak Irish. I know what Cinn Chomhairle means, who else does? Also, I don't think WP:SETCAT applies to non-English language irregular plurals. Spleodrach (talk) 18:10, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I was wondering about language issues too. Perhaps this is a known term to British people, since it's about their neighbouring country, but probably not to Americans, Australians or Canadians. This also raises a question mark for the article name, obviously. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:45, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • We have done okay since 2008 with Category:Cathaoirligh of Seanad Éireann. These are loanwords; even in English-language proceedings of the Oireachtas, of English-language reports, no other term is used.
These are career-defining posts, so the singular form of the title will always will be used in the lede, which means it will be known to the reader. The plural form is not radically different, so a reader can easily infer what it refers to.
We don't use a translated or descriptive title for the head article. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:25, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The proceedings of the Oirechtas should probably not be decisive, we should also take into consideration how it is referred to in British and/or American sources. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:30, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep The nominator has also helpfully created a re-direct which solves the nightmare scenario of hoards of Gaelgeoirí frantically looking for the category as Gaeilge, in the English-language Wiki, as opposed to the Gaelic-language wiki which some might imagine to be their usual haunt. Even in Gaelic, one rarely encounters the term in the plural form. To non-Irish speakers with a reasonable grasp of Irish politics, it would not be reasonable to assume that they would know that "cinn" is the plural form of "ceann". This is a solution in search of a problem. Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:58, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Procedural comment I believe that the correct grammatical construct is actually "Cinn Comhairle", as opposed to "Cinn Chomhairle". See the Dáil record here. Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:04, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename to Category:Cinn Comhairle per User:BrownHairedGirl, and retain a category redirect. I'm unconvinced by the opposing arguments, given the main article is Ceann Comhairle and nearly every article's lead includes some variant of "[Name] ... served as Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann". After all, no one is suggesting we rename Category:Dáil Éireann to Category:Assembly of Ireland. -- Black Falcon (talk) 22:12, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Misguided eponymous category that's serving as a compilation of several different overcategorization errors: it contains three of his family members and three organizations he was associated with (both violating WP:OCASSOC), two things that were merely named after him (violating WP:SHAREDNAME), one community whose only connection to him is that he once inaugurated a memorial shrine in the community (violating WP:DEFINING), and one book he wrote. All of which means that if this were purged of everything that shouldn't be categorized this way, all that would be left is the eponym and the book — so it would also fail WP:SMALLCAT. Bearcat (talk) 17:56, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep (creator) contains articles legitimately related to Nujoma.--TM 21:33, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, it contains one article which is already in Category:800 in Europe. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:04, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete both. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:12, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: delete, after this discussion and some similar discussions in which years by country categories were upmerged, the early medieval years by country container categories have lost their purpose. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:58, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support in principle The next level down probably also needs to go, but making sure that articles are not orphaned. At the bottom are two Wales and one Germany article. The Wales ones should be 6th cent. in Wales + 560 in Europe (or British Isles). Peterkingiron (talk) 15:32, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Christmas-linked holidays. (non-admin closure) feminist (talk) 16:29, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge, unusual basis for categorization especially because Christmas is not a movable holiday. There is just one target specified, because the articles are already in Category:Movable December observances and Category:Movable January observances. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:38, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support while it differs between denominational families, nevertheless, in each the date is fixed, not moveable. Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:46, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- These are not strictly moveable in the way in which Easter-linked ones are. They vary only according to which day of the week Christmas happens to fall on. The same considerations should apply to Thanksgiving-related ones. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:45, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. Has one article and two redirects. However, only one of these (the redirect Galvorn) is in Category:Fictional materials. 165.91.12.221 (talk) 06:34, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Per WP:SMALLCAT. Mithril is the only one that is very notable.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 05:14, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment Some of the material listed are obscure even in-universe. "Galvorn" is a metal discovered by a single metalworker character and used only for his personal armour. It is pretty much unique to the story he appears in. It is also hinted to be in use in a second story, but never explicitly named in the text. Dimadick (talk) 18:30, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. At current, has two articles and three redirects. 165.91.12.221 (talk) 06:31, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Per nom. I'm not even sure if Vibranium is notable as a standalone article, and the real world metal would merit a separate article per Wikipedia policy on never mixing real world and fictional article topics.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 05:16, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment There is no real-world metal called Vibranium. It seems to be a brand name used by a company for its reinforced carbon fiber. The CEO of the company, Dirk Ahlborn, happens to be a comic book fan and named the fiber after the material used for Captain America's shield in Marvel stories. This is included in the source we are using for the fiber." "Ahlborn confirmed that the name was inspired by the fictional Vibranium, and confessed to being a comic book fan. "Who isn't?" he said." Dimadick (talk) 18:50, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Per nom. Only adamantium and vibranium play large roles within the Marvel Universe and related stories. "Uru" is just Marvel's name for a substance used for a number of Asgardian weapons, giving a special name for otherwise unnamed metals depicted in Norse mythology. Dimadick (talk) 18:41, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
