The result of the discussion was: delete all. (non-admin closure) Armbrust The Homunculus 14:01, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:NONDEF, 'action hero' isn't a defining characteristic of people fictional characters in this category. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:48, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Adding the sub-category

  • Keep - Action hero is a notable topic, so per WP:LISTN it's an adequate subject for including the examples, as it's been discused as a group. Plus, contrary to the nominator's change of mind, it is a defining characteristic of these fictional characters such as Indiana Jones, Lara Croft or James Bond. Diego (talk) 23:31, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete too broad a term lacking any clear, unambiguous definition. It is neither clear what level of "action" needs to be done to qualify under that prong, nor exactly what makes the person a hero. Also it is unclear that this is grouping like things. It groups comic Super heros, with spies like James Bond, with fantasy adventure heros like Aragorn, and probably more stuff too.John Pack Lambert (talk) 04:01, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:OC#SUBJECTIVE. Even if this may be defining and obviously applicable for some fictional characters, it is debatable in many other cases, including some current members of the category. – Fayenatic London 16:26, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: soft delete (soft, given the lack of participation). – Fayenatic London 00:01, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, we don't normally diffuse an ethnicity by expatriate destination (we don't have Category:Jewish expatriates in Germany, for example) and this tree is a bad place to start such a diffusion because it merely leads to minuscule categories. We don't have to merge because the one article is adequately categorized in a Rus' princesses category already. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:26, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus, leaning towards keep. – Fayenatic London 16:34, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is my first nomination of a category for deletion discussion so I apologize if I do it wrong. This category almost entirely consists of holocaust victims and no criteria for what this category is supposed to be used for. There is no other "religious group" in World War II category. This list can easily include any Jewish person who lived or died in World War II and I'm sure categories are not meant for that. Arguablefool (talk) 03:14, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, it would probably be best to containerize the category such that each subcategory clearly defines the role that Jews of the subcategory had in World War II (e.g. casualties, collaborators). This comment applies similarly to the subcategories Category:People of World War II by nationality. Marcocapelle (talk) 23:09, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. My initial reaction was to containerise or delete, but after some digging, I no think that is a good solution.
My initial concern was the big historical context for the history of Jews in this era was Nazism, and that the 1933-45 Nazi regime would be more a more period for grouping all this content. I can see little point in, for example, splitting the categorisation of German victims of Nazism at September 1939. However we do not seem to have such a category within Category:20th-century Jews.
And in any case, there is a significant amount of content relaying specifically to Jews in WWII, such as the Jewish soldiers and the already categorised Category:Jewish resistance members. Even if that's all the content we categorise here, it's still more than enough to justify a category for people of Jewish nationality within Category:People of World War II by nationality. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:45, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete It's undeniable that aspects of WW2 were directed against the Jewish people, so unlike garden variety ethnic/religious categories, this one is relevant. That said, it's unlikely we need such a container category (although I may be convinced otherwise), but to lump people who are/were Jewish, religiously or ethnically, who had anything to do with WW2 seems a stretch. We have lots of categories for Jewish victims of the holocaust, Jewish emigrees, Jewish resistance fighters, Schindler's list people, people who died in various camps, ghettos, etc., survivors, etc., probably some Jewish military categories as well (although those seem dubious in my view), they all seem to be well organized into various category trees - to create a parallel tree seems to sew confusion rather than aid searching. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 19:52, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Surprisingly, many of these categories do not exist yet for Jewish people. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:23, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've created two further subcategories. Now the category is ready for containerizing, i.e. for removing the remaining articles which are about Jewish people who survived World War II because they were able to hide or emigrate. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:24, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete For most military personnel in most countries, such as the US, the fact they were Jews fighting in the war is not defining. On the other hand, with the Holocaust victims and survivors categories placed her, the tag "of World War II" is often highly questionable. Some Holocaust victims were killed before the war even started.John Pack Lambert (talk) 04:03, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: For good or ill, being Jewish meant something in the World War II era. pbp 01:06, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
