Category:Norwegian people who died in Dachau concentration camp[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: upmerge (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 11:43, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: A small, non defining category; only three entries listed. One of the articles included is on a subject (Erik Zeiner-Henriksen) who died in 2016, so most certainly not in the camp.
Created by a user who's been indef blocked for sock puppetry, and apparently had a fondness for creating bizarre cats, such as Category:LGBT Nazis. K.e.coffman (talk) 08:21, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upmerge – to the parent categories. (Erik Zeiner-Henriksen did die in Dachau in 1945. He is mentioned in his brother's article.) Oculi (talk) 09:11, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient conflicts[edit]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. Categories for older centuries (6th C BC, etc) were merged a couple of years ago; this is on the cusp of those that were not changed. There is scope to expand this structure for 5th century BC. Although there was no opposition here, more participation would be needed to shift the boundary for merging to century categories. – Fayenatic London 08:56, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, currently only one or two articles per category. Other 5th century BC decade or year categories don't exist. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:16, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Modalities[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. – Fayenatic London 06:23, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:SMALLCAT, the category contains the two main concepts of linguistic modality, namely necessity and possibility, while the other two items are unrelated. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:04, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose as stated. Given that the category was created by User:Gregbard, I'm pretty sure this was meant to be about modal logic, not linguistics.
However. That doesn't necessarily mean I think the category should be kept. Greg has, or at least has had, a tendency to create a great many categories, and to categorize things in ways that may not be uncontroversial. In this case:
  1. I am not really familiar with the name "modality" for the semantic content of modal operators. That may not mean much, as modal logic has never been my field. Still, I'd like to have some impartial parties weigh in. Even if it is standard, it may not be specific enough — maybe "logical modality" or something would be better. Or maybe we don't need such a category at all, given the small number of articles appropriate to it.
  2. The category as it stands is not correctly populated. For example, the necessity article is about a legal concept, not a logical one.

Oh, I see that I misinterpreted the proposal — I thought it was to move it to category:linguistic modalities. I don't have a strong opinion on whether it should be deleted. It would at least solve the problem of deciding whether it's correctly named. --Trovatore (talk) 07:36, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment at any rate this category cannot remain as it is named since modality is a disambiguation page, making this category name ambiguous. -- 70.51.200.162 (talk) 09:22, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. – Fayenatic London 07:29, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: align with renaming of series in July 2016 from V8 Supercars to Supercars Championship. Cwr09 (talk) 02:01, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've combined the different nominations with the same rationale to one nomination. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:45, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support to align with main article name. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:31, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Partial Oppose The reason why the term V8 Supercars was created was because they initially announced the name Supercars but found out the name was already in use by PROCAR for it's top level production car class. Making the change to some (not all) categories becomes inaccurate if it uses a name that connects to an unrealted series. --Falcadore (talk) 21:09, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. Impala27 (talk) 03:23, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. – Fayenatic London 10:09, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: the 'K' (for kilometres I presume) is superfluous, in line with Category:Hamilton 400, Category:Indianapolis 500 and Category:Queensland 500. Cwr09 (talk) 02:01, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
