Category:IND Eighth Avenue Line templates[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: upmerge (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 05:37, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category has just one member, Template:IND8, which is up for deletion. Even if that template is kept, it can be upmerged into Category:Templates for New York City Subway lines. epicgenius (talk) 20:39, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Algerian Christian saints[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: reverse merge, allowing parent category Category:Algerian saints to be used for saints of other religions. User:Sondra.kinsey: thank you for listing this for discussion, but please do not empty categories without waiting for the CFD process. – Fayenatic London 10:59, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: parent category Category:Algerian saints is already a subcategory of Category:Christian saints Sondra.kinsey (talk) 18:54, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree with all you've written there Marco. However, as we know, there are Hindu and Muslim and Bahai saints too. It would be wrong, therefore, for Christians to appropriate the entire category to themselves. So while it may not sit nicely with WP:Precision (so beloved of BHG in the GB discussions), it is an honourable exception IMHO. Laurel Lodged (talk) 09:34, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree it makes sense to rename all of them into Christian, but then actually the whole by nationality tree should be nominated. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:27, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- Hindu saints in Algeria is improbable, but there may be Muslim (e.g. Sufi) ones and they should not be merged with Christians. At worst this should be a merge nom, not a delete one. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:47, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reverse merge to Christian Saints category. At least in some sources some Sufi individuals will be described as Saints, but they should not be put in the Christian category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:59, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment someone has emptied the article since it has been nominated for discussion. Inter&anthro (talk) 14:28, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reverse Merge With no objection to recreating this parent category when non-Christian saints show up/are recognized. RevelationDirect (talk) 02:02, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People from the Principality of Moldavia[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: split to Category:People of the Principality of Moldavia and Category:People from Western Moldavia. – Fayenatic London 07:45, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This should be moved because, as currently worded, it's ahistorical. While some of the people in it are from the actual principality (in particular the government ministers and the rulers), most are not, especially in the county subcategories. People like, say, Narcis Bădic, Alexandru Buhuși, Vlad Danale, Andrei Herghelegiu, Adrian Moldovan or Ștefan Popescu -- all athletes from Iași born in the 1990s, 130+ years after the principality ceased to exist -- cannot be said to come from the principality, but are very much from Western Moldavia, an extant geographic region. For people specifically associated with the principality (say the ministers, rulers and consorts), perhaps a separate Category:People of the Principality of Moldavia would be advisable. Biruitorul Talk 18:18, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Weak oppose. We already have several subcats in Category:People by former country, therefore I think a category cleanup would be better (though Category:People from Western Moldavia would still be a valid, but parallel, category, that would not apply to quite a few of the people currently in the "principality of Moldavia" category). The cat as it stands now should only be present on articles about people born in a territory that, at the time of their birth, weas part of the Moldavian principality (which would exclude all the examples presented by the nomination).Anonimu (talk) 16:01, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In general, the "former country" categories take the "of + country" format. So if this gets moved to Category:People of the Principality of Moldavia and we then create Category:People from Western Moldavia, that should solve the matter. - Biruitorul Talk 19:36, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- We have lots of categories for former countries. If the former polity survives as a current polity (of a lower level), we can have both categories with see also capnotes. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:52, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split as nominator proposed in the course of the discussion. Part of the content of the category relates to the region, another part relates to the former principality. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:35, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Purge of county subcategories, and only include people who came from Moldavia. Also include people who came from parts of Moldavia now in Moldova or Ukraine when that area was part of the Principality of Moldavia.John Pack Lambert (talk) 04:00, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Rename. Timrollpickering 09:58, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Unlike the below nomination, there is no defunct defense companies tree and again some of these aren't defunct. Tim! (talk) 17:57, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Rename. Timrollpickering 09:58, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: There is a tree for Category:Defunct manufacturing companies by country, however not everything in this category is defunct eg Sanyo, so perhaps a different name might be better. Tim! (talk) 17:53, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 05:40, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Small one-county community with just 3 entries. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 11:28, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: speedy rename WP:C2E. – Fayenatic London 23:33, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: "New Territories" usually needs the definite article. Jc86035 (talk) Use {{re|Jc86035}}

Category:Lists of schools in Botswana[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 05:43, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary, as all the city-specific lists have been redirected to their parent city articles, and only the single main list of schools remains. ♠PMC(talk) 08:22, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge to all parents. PMC please note that "deleting" a category means removing the contents from all the parent hierarchies. – Fayenatic London 23:40, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 05:49, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per network protocol redirecting to communication protocol. Alternately, make this a subcat. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 00:10, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. I am not an IT expert, but it seems to me that there is merit in retaining a distinction beween networking protocols, and other types of communication protocol such or Bluetooth.
So I wouldn't support this change of scope unless we had input from the relevant WkiiProjects that they though it appropriate. @Koavf: Have any such projects been notified? ---BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs)

  • Comment note that this is actually a rename proposal instead of a merge proposal. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:28, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • It seems the nominator's intended merge target was Category:Communications protocols, which actually exists. That said, opppose merge per lack of clear rationale. —swpbT 14:02, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Neighborhoods[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: Rename. Timrollpickering 09:56, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The parent article is Neighbourhood, and Neighborhood is a redirect to it. I didn't want to send this to CFDS because there was a bit of a copy/paste-move-war some time back at the latter page, so someone might object that the article's current name isn't stable enough. Non-localised subcategories, e.g. Category:Fictional neighborhoods, will need to be renamed unless this nomination is rejected somehow. Nyttend (talk) 02:04, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
