Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary category per WP:OCEPON as it will only have Category:Crystal Waters albums and Category:Crystal Waters songs to populate it. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 21:32, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom and WP:OCEPON. As always, everybody who has a WP:BLP does not automatically get an eponymous category for it too; this would be justified if there were a lot of spinoff content that required Waters-related categorization beyond the standard "albums cat" + "songs cat" + eponym scheme — Category:Leonard Cohen, for example, crosses into books and films that need Cohen categories, his two children who are also both independently notable, several people whose notability specifically derives from collaborating with Cohen, and on and so forth. But if all there is to file here is the standard set of expected content, then an eponymous category is not warranted. Bearcat (talk) 17:17, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. – Fayenatic London 10:00, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: the Northern California Athletic Conference was known as the Far Western Conference until 1982. Jweiss11 (talk) 20:04, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Concur. Please include "1931" in this list as well. It was missing and I created it today when I created the 1931 Fresno State article. Ocfootballknut (talk) 04:11, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Added 1931. @Ocfootballknut: thanks for commenting. If you create more categories of this sort for years 1943 to 1982, just name them "Far Western Conference". Jweiss11 (talk) 16:05, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support renaming per nom. Cbl62 (talk) 16:07, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- We should use the contemporary names, but they can remain parented by a category using the present name. That is what we do with renamed countries. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:34, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle: can we close this one? Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 23:02, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd prefer nominations as large as this one to be closed by an admin. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:41, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@BU Rob13: can you close this one? Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 02:48, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Comedy video games[edit]

The result of the discussion was: delete both. – Fayenatic London 10:03, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Previously discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#Category:Comedy video games with consensus to nominate for deletion. Unlike film and television, "comedy" is not a defining genre of video games—not used academically and not used as a thematic genre in reviews. In addition and perhaps as a result, the category has unclear inclusion criteria. czar 18:54, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:OVERCAT and vague criteria not established by reliable sources. Copying my comments from VG talk page: It seems like the pages in it are included if they have any humor, and not necessarily as a defining characteristic. This sounds like very vague criteria that would include many games that are not centrally funny. Pretty much every adventure game with some quirky lines that a reviewer remarks as "funny" would then be included. As to tightening the criteria, "comedy" is not a widely used genre or theme as applied to video games or we would have comedy game. Without the main topic, a category is almost always going to be WP:OVERCAT WP:OR. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 20:44, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. --The1337gamer (talk) 20:02, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, as we would have to know when to classify a video game as comedy, which is not yet the case. Gamingforfun365 23:00, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Though a genre of film, theater, music, and prose fiction, comedy is not yet (and likely never will be) a recognized genre of video games. Thus, without reliable sources to definitively identify a game as "comedy", the bounds of this category are too difficult to define.--Martin IIIa (talk) 15:38, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Comedy can be on any game of any genres. Obviously. 00:50, 10 April 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:4F20:7E0:41A1:CBFA:AAA:6BA1 (talk)

The result of the discussion was: merge and delete, or rename to the pattern "Category:Lists of ambassadors of Foo". – Fayenatic London 10:08, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Bringing a series of categories created by user Regesta into line with established naming conventions for that category tree, and conventions specified at Wikipedia:Category names. XXN, 18:15, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename each to the respective Category:Lists of ambassadors of Foo, per the Kazakh precedent. Oculi (talk) 23:12, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge all to "Ambassadors of Foo" or Lists of Ambassadors of Foo. These seem to be aberrant creations by some one who did not know what already exists. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:39, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since these categories exist and they now form a complete tree, rename per Oculi. But frankly it's pretty unfortunate these categories have been created to begin with, since nearly all of them are a 1-item category, meaning that a category has been added to the list articles that doesn't allow to navigate to related articles because there aren't any. That doesn't really encourage the use of categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:50, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: seems that the author of these pages moved them to Category:Lists of ambassadors of Foo, as it was suggested. XXN, 13:47, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Merge/Rename to "Lists of ambassadors of Foo" as suggested above; likewise use of tree "Lists of ambassadors to Foo" Hugo999 (talk) 04:48, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom. Tim! (talk) 18:07, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:African television series[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 07:08, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Non-defining ubercategories for television series by continent or continental region instead of country. "African television series" is the only television series category that exists at the continental level rather than the country-specific one, and in fact it's never been properly populated either -- "East African television series" is its only content, and even that one in turn parents only Kenya and Uganda but none of the other East African countries. And other than that, they each formerly contained some duplicate categorization of a number of shows that were already in the Kenyan or Ugandan categories anyway and thus didn't require either of these. There's simply no evidence that we need this. Bearcat (talk) 06:11, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agreed. "Television series by country" and "Television in X country" (under "Television in Africa") are sufficient parent categories. czar 19:03, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
