Nominator's rationale: We currently do not have a category for female English screenwriters. Therefore, we have to either delete this cat, or create one for female screenwriters. Personally, I lean a bit more towards deletion over creation of a female category because I don't think gender influences screenwriting that much; however I do not feel strongly about it at all. JDDJS (talk) 23:00, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Keep - Category:British women screenwriters could have Category:English women screenwriters as a subcat. Many writers (screen or not) are influenced by their gender. Jim Michael (talk) 23:19, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Valid subcategory by gender. Dimadick (talk) 18:54, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete AFAIK, the big awards for screenwriters - as opposed to actors - are not segregated by sex. Male and female screenwriters collaborate and compete with each other - and we have an article screenwriter, which talks about what a screenwriter does and none of it is sex specific, and no one has put forward reliable sources that show that female and male scriptwriters write scripts in markedly different ways, so this would be OC based on OR. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:21, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The large majority of the top screenwriters are men, which suggests that there's some sort of gender bias and/or that fewer women than men want to be screenwriters. An article could be written about women screenwriters and how their writing differs from that of their male counterparts - just like with novelists, poets etc. Jim Michael (talk) 07:32, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2017 May 10#Category:Dog songs. – Fayenatic London 07:58, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: I don't know what a "dog song" is but I assume the category is intended for songs about dogs. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 16:40, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • No objection. Rathfelder (talk) 18:43, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. JDDJS (talk) 23:05, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. These 'Songs about' are repositories for original research and listing by title. For instance, one entry, has nothing in the text about the subject, so it is listed merely because of the title, Me and You and a Dog Named Boo, and the title does actually suggest it's not about a dog either. So, at this point, it seems to fair to suggest the correct category name should be 'Songs which mention a dog somewhere in the title and or lyrics' How very defining! I doubt there is another project on WP that would permit such vacuous categories. --Richhoncho (talk) 09:42, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Rathfelder: Trouble is that a category is for "defined" attributes of the members, roughly speaking, something that is mentioned in the lead of the article. Nowhere in the text if there confirmation that the song is about a dog, Allmusic says the song is about "freedom" and "long walk." Most of these categories, as Carlossuarez46 says, are really pointless categories and adding "Me & You..." in any lyric based category is about as pointless as it gets.--Richhoncho (talk) 11:23, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:French marine engineers[edit]

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:French naval architects. I'll let the bot do the hard work of recategorising all the pages, if that's okay with you. Deryck C. 15:56, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Naval engineer is a synonym, and in France the main term, for a naval architect – broadly, designer of ships. Marine engineer is a wider term encompassing e.g. design of harbours, ship engines and torpedos. The members of this category are ship designers (including one submarine designer). Rather than follow the parent and be named Category:French naval architects, I have proposed "French naval engineers" as this is closer to the dominant French usage. This will revert an undiscussed out-of-process move by user:Afil in 2015. – Fayenatic London 21:24, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Comment, @Fayenatic london: in French WP the main article is Architecte naval [1], from that perspective we may just rename the category Category:French naval architects consistently with the parent category. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:33, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename to Category:French naval architects, which is the English-language standard for these people. "Naval engineers", to most people, simply implies engineers who serve in the navy. "Marine engineers" usually refers to the officers who keep the ship's engines running, not people who design ships, harbours, or anything else. Note that two of the people in the category were actually apparently the latter, not naval architects at all. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:32, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, as nominator, I support the alternative proposal to rename to Category:French naval architects. – Fayenatic London 11:50, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
