Category:Armenian Americans[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: Merge to Category:American people of Armenian descent. Timrollpickering 12:34, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Even if one assumes that being partially fooish American is defining and meaningful; this is a functional equivalent of Category:American people of Armenian descent. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:53, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Taxa named by Francis Walker (entomologist)[edit]

The result of the discussion was: Merge. Timrollpickering 12:33, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Deal with the same content: articles on various taxa named by Francis Walker (entomologist), except inexplicably split up across two categories.
In my opinion, the categories are best merged to the name *without* disambiguation, as considering the subject of the category, no confusion is possible (for while there are several other notable Francis Walkers--thus the mainspace disambiguation--none of them have named any taxa.)
If having the name of the category reflect the name of the article is deemed more important, however, I would also agree to a merge the other way 'round. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 21:25, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as proposed - this is consistent with other cats. Johnbod (talk) 13:06, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:United Nations non-governmental organizations[edit]

The result of the discussion was:  Relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2018 July 18#Category:United Nations non-governmental organizations. xplicit 00:07, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename, the current category name wrongly suggests these are organizations of the United Nations, which is not actually the case. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:52, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename but not as suggested. The majority of the content is national (etc) United Nations Associations, which are organisations whose role is to be cheer-leaders for UN. I am not quite sure what the rest of the content is doing there: are they NGOs recognised by UN? if so, that is a separate category. My preferred target would be Category:United Nations Associations, with anything else purged to somewhere else. This needs more discussion: please relist. Category:Native American LGBT-related films[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete without objection to creating a film category with a wider scope. For reference, these are the films that were in this category: Big Eden, The Business of Fancydancing and Drunktown's Finest. (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 06:43, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category was originally created to contain just one film. I was aware of just two other films I could add to it (and even one of those two is technically stretching it, because while one significant character in the film happens to be Native American the film isn't really about that) -- but even a comprehensive category comparison between Category:American LGBT-related films and Category:Films about Native Americans in AWB failed to turn up even one other film besides the two I already knew about. I'm willing to withdraw this if somebody with much more knowledge about this subject area can populate the category over the WP:SMALLCAT barrier -- but three films isn't enough to warrant this yet, and I've been unable to find any others. Bearcat (talk) 18:13, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"Thank you for your feedback. I'm not sure how many Native American LGBT films exist. I would like for Native American LGBT films to have their own Wiki page if possible so that Native American LGBT people can easily search for their own films. While one could collapse these films into American LGBT films, if someone just wants to view culturally distinctive LGBT films, especially those pertaining to Native American culture, where one or all protagonists are LGBT, they can do so. Or, if this is more so related to the lack of the number of known Native American LGBT films, perhaps it would be better to create an Indigenous LGBT films page, to encompass Native LGBT films not just from the United States, but also from Canada, Latin America, and other parts of the world."
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
