Nominator's rationale: Although it's often reflected in the name of the treaty, the place where a treaty was concluded or signed is not particularly defining for the treaty. To some extent, this is overcategorization of unrelated subjects by shared naming feature. Good Ol’factory (talk) 21:44, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People associated with bribery[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: Merge/delete. Timrollpickering 18:12, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: move the two subcategories to parent Category:Bribery, then delete this category, per WP:OCASSOC. The category attracts articles of people who are not convicted for bribery and should not be here. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:15, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. We should be very sparing in our use of categories using "People associated with ...". Rathfelder (talk) 15:29, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support -- Saying that a person is associated with bribery, though not convicted of it, presents the risk of a libel suit. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:55, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Holy orders in the Catholic Church[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was:  Relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2018 November 1#Category:Holy orders in the Catholic Church. xplicit 07:12, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename, apart from the eponymous article the category has a much broader content than just Holy orders. Clerical state would be a better term, per e.g. this source. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:54, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • The alternative does not resolve the problem mentioned in the rationale. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:39, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Satanic ritual abuse in the United States[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: Merge. Timrollpickering 18:11, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Merge to Category:Satanic ritual abuse hysteria in the United States, as there is only one topic, the articles reference the hysteria epidemic not actual abuse, and the vast majority of the articles are in the other category. Guy (Help!) 16:51, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Satanic ritual abuse was a moral panic topic in the 1980s, and there was very little evidence for actual abuse of any kind. :"Official investigations produced no evidence of widespread conspiracies or of the slaughter of thousands; only a small number of verified crimes have even remote similarities to tales of SRA. In the latter half of the 1990s, interest in SRA declined and skepticism became the default position, with very few researchers giving any credence to the existence of SRA." Dimadick (talk) 12:50, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Merge. Timrollpickering 18:11, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Merge as WP:SOFTDELETE because of WP:SMALLCAT; each of these currently only holds one page. User:Saadat Malik did a lot more of these at the start of June, and if this is approved then I propose to take this CFD as authority to manually merge any others that still contain only one or two pages. – Fayenatic London 14:08, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. Small one-county community with just two entries. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 12:18, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:ESports games[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: Rename nominated categories. Others will need to be listed to be processed; they can be done at WP:CFDS. Timrollpickering 18:10, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: To comply with the outcome of a recent RFD. Lordtobi () 08:37, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I wonder why not include all the other categories using "ESports" spelling in this CfD? —  HELLKNOWZ   ▎TALK 14:41, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There are too many categories to list all of them here. I will add the most significant ones (such as top categories) later if needed. Lordtobi () 07:55, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Lordtobi: I think you should just go ahead and move them. Category spellings need to reflect the main subject it's based on, so I don't see who would even oppose this. If you want, I can provide a list of them to speed up the process. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 17:57, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Dissident93; well, I wanted to but I couldn't given that redirect categories were already in place and I am not an administrator. Best-case an administrator could just speedy-close this and move all categories. Lordtobi () 18:24, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • @Lordtobi: My bad, I assumed you had move rights. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:28, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
          • @Dissident93: I do have extended mover rights, but these kinda moves are still something my account isn't able to do (I actually requested the permission specifically for this, but didn't know that I wasn't going to get what I was expecting). I think the only thing I have new is the "Leave a redirect" option when moving a page. Lordtobi () 18:33, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I created the ESports games category 12 1/2 years ago. Renaming makes sense to me`after the CfD. Wedderkop (talk) 14:43, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - I don't even see the need for discussing this. All of these eSport categories/templates should be moved to esport following the main article RFC move. I'd move them all myself if they weren't move/redirect protected. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 17:24, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Catholic Church offices[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was:  Relisted at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2018 November 1#Category:Catholic Church offices. xplicit 07:12, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Pretty much identical scope? For any entry that cannot be dealt with as inside an identical scope should probably rather be subcategorised somewhere else? Chicbyaccident (talk) 07:38, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure either. It is rather unclear. That's why I think this category merits some reconsidering. Chicbyaccident (talk) 13:30, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, xplicit 03:54, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Please take care when choosing a category name to use words that are unambiguous to the lay reader. Be aware that certain terms which tend to mean one thing in modern, colloquial English may have a specialized meaning in the context of Catholic doctrine or administration. Some of these are known well enough outside Catholic circles, others less so. Bishop, priest, or deacon might be a position or an office to you and me, but they are (holy) orders in this context. Conversely, office can be something else. Other seemingly unambiguous terms like congregation, ordinary, or religious can have specialized meanings in a Catholic context which differ sufficiently from the more generalized sense as to permit confusion. So when choosing a name for a category, as far as possible terms should be chosen which will not confuse the general reader. Mathglot (talk) 21:11, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Mathglot: thank you for your advice. Which name would you recommend in this particular case? Marcocapelle (talk) 06:00, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
