The result of the discussion was: delete all. (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 00:10, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, Austria did not a play a game at the 1938 World Cup, and Portugal didn't qualify for any World Cup in the 1990s. KingSkyLord (talk) 20:58, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment All of these categories have been emptied and could have been speedied. Liz Read! Talk! 02:37, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2nd millennium in the colonial empires[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 10:03, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, the colonial empires existed entirely within the 2nd millennium so there is no need to diffuse them by millennium. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:35, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all -- Almost all millennium categories are unnecessary. Even Egypt has a history of about 50 centuries, so that any higher level period is a waste of space. Peterkingiron (talk) 11:12, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Some of these should be upmerged, e.g. Category:British India

Shrines[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: withdrawn (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 10:43, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge or reverse merge, shrines are holy places, so we do not need separate categories for shrines and for holy places. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:55, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Yes, all shrines are holy places, but not all holy places are shrines. These seem like quite reasonable subcategories. And these categories are also part of the Category:Shrines tree. All churches are also holy places, too - do we need a Category:Church buildings? Grutness...wha? 03:40, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Withdrawn, this is a mistake indeed. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:43, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, each of the categories only contains the eponymous article and a subcategory of recipients. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:12, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

Nominator's rationale: This is the parent of Category:Furniture companies by country Those categories mostly contain both manufacturers and retailers, and for most countries not separated. Many of the companies both manufacture and retail. Rathfelder (talk) 21:27, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:World Heritage Tentative List by Bosnia and Herzegovina[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus to delete, so rename to Category:World Heritage Tentative List for Bosnia and Herzegovina. – Fayenatic London 09:44, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Category appears to have been created by a non-native speaker of English, and "...by Bosnia and Herzegovina" is clearly not correct. According to Wikipedia:Category names#State-based topics, it seems that it should be "...of Bosnia and Herzegovina", but "...in Bosnia and Herzegovina" is also a possibility. Richard3120 (talk) 15:01, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as non-defining - e.g. this characteristic isn't even mentioned in the text of the Sarajevo article. DexDor (talk) 05:33, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, being on a tentative list is far from defining. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:32, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@DexDor: @Marcocapelle: by the same argument, do you think the category below regarding Colombia should go as well? Richard3120 (talk) 23:36, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep but Suggest "for", not by or of. These are submitted by governmental bodies, so that this is NOT WP:OR. If to be deleted, listify first. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:49, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - Being on Tentative list is actually quite important part of the process, a crucial step, and by that I mean it's most certainly "defining" enough no matter how we look on it from the perspective of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. I created both World Heritage Tentative List by country‎ and Category:World Heritage Tentative List by Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that "by"/"for"/"of" is most likely a slip on my part while copy/pasting, I probably wouldn't make such a glaring error even as a non-native speaker, however much more important is that I created it to make some sense of a Category:World Heritage Site Tentative list, containing 184 pages already, with various angles on the subject matter from all over the world, simply stacked there, on top of each other. So, question is, what will you do to make that category more useful and easier to navigate.--౪ Santa ౪99° 21:08, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep but rename using "for" (or "of", whatever is more appropriate)--౪ Santa ౪99° 15:31, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep for now While I agree that being on the tentative list isn't a defining as most of the pages in the category doesn't mention it in prose, it would be improper to delete just this subcategory as that would make navigation in Category:World Heritage Tentative List by Bosnia and Herzegovina worse. I would be infavor of deleting the whole category tree in a new nomination after listifying. Regarding the name I am in favor of "for" since it's talking about the list, not the places. There's an argument for both of and in since world heritage can include both natural and manmade object which would use of and in respecctivley per WP:CATNAME and I thus have no opinion between them. --Trialpears (talk) 18:06, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Being on a tentative list is not remotely a defining characteristic, and generally speaking, nominations for such honors are often fluff events in and of themselves, with many nominations having no real hope of making the chosen pick. • Delete, being on a tentative list is far from defining. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:09, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep but Suggest "for", not by or of. I assume that these are submitted by governmental bodies, though it is not clear here, so that this is NOT WP:OR. If to be deleted, listify first. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:51, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • As with the discussion just above, nobody claims that this is a case of WP:OR. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:18, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per my comment above, but rename using "for" (or "of", whatever is adequate).--౪ Santa ౪99° 15:33, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
