The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 09:12, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Category with only two redirects, one article whose inclusion there is dubious, and one article with non-dubious inclusion. ミラP 17:21, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need to keep the magic item category under the Greyhawk parent. BOZ (talk) 12:05, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but should the members of the magic items category go into the Greyhawk parent? – Fayenatic London 23:19, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, that would not be appropriate in my estimation. BOZ (talk) 04:27, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I see that the articles do not mention Greyhawk, and only one of the redirects' targets mentions this campaign. – Fayenatic London 11:54, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Federal credit unions of Canada[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 02:35, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: As per WP:SMALLCAT and, possibly, WP:TRIVIALCAT, I propose to merge Category:Federal credit unions of Canada, containing only two credit unions, and merging the (current) duo of credit unions in to Category:Credit unions of Canada. Alternatively, we could just delete this category and tag the duo with the latter, larger category if they aren't already. Doug Mehus (talk) 17:04, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 02:36, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: As per WP:SMALLCAT and, possibly, WP:TRIVIALCAT, I propose to merge Category:Credit union case law in Canada, containing only a single case, and merging the single case in to Category:Banking case law and/or Category:Canadian case law by topic. Alternatively, we could just delete this category and tag the case with one, or both, of the latter, larger category(ies) if it isn't already. Doug Mehus (talk) 17:03, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Credit unions of Alberta[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge, also to Category:Companies based in Alberta. MER-C 19:48, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: As per WP:SMALLCAT and, possibly, WP:TRIVIALCAT, I propose to merge Category:Credit unions of Alberta, containing only two credit unions of questionable nobility, and merging the (current) duo of credit unions in to Category:Credit unions of Canada. Alternatively, we could just delete this category and tag the duo with the latter, larger category if they aren't already. Doug Mehus (talk) 16:59, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Dmehus: what about the other parent hierarchy for Alberta? As Category:Credit unions of Canada is within Category:Financial services companies of Canada (so credit unions are "companies"), I suggest also merging to Category:Companies based in Alberta. If you agree, please also modify the Manitoba nomination below. – Fayenatic London 09:38, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fayenatic london, Well, they're officially cooperatives and are typically incorporated under different provincial legislation governing credit unions versus that which governs companies. I'm not quite sure what you're proposing, though...I'm proposing to delete WP:SMALLCAT Credit unions of Alberta, so how would it merge with Companies based in Alberta? I would argue Credit unions of Canada is too different to be a sub-category of Companies based in Alberta. Instead, it sounds like what you're proposing could, and should, be solved at the article level by tagging the Alberta credit unions (few of them as they are; notability notwithstanding) with Companies based in Alberta. Doug Mehus (talk) 15:43, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • An automated merge would have the same effect as manually adding the articles to Category:Companies based in Alberta. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:45, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Marcocapelle, I'll volunteer to tag the two credit unions individually. I fundamentally don't like the idea of seeing "Credit unions of Canada" as a sub-category of "Companies based in Alberta". The two are unrelated and it makes no hierarchical sense. Doug Mehus (talk) 20:48, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
     Done. Doug Mehus (talk) 20:49, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is apparently a misunderstanding in terminology, because a dual merge to Category:Credit unions of Canada and to Category:Companies based in Alberta would have resulted in the articles to be added to these both categories which is exactly what we agree upon that should happen. It would not have resulted in "Credit unions of Canada" becoming a sub-category of "Companies based in Alberta". Marcocapelle (talk) 20:59, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Marcocapelle, How would you effect a dual merge without Companies based in Alberta becoming a sub-cat of Credit unions of Canada, though? At any rate, I added them to Companies based in Alberta manually, so there's no need for such a dual merge.Doug Mehus (talk) 16:14, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The articles will be added to the two categories independently from each other. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:04, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Marcocapelle, Okay, yes, then I have no problem with that. Sorry for the misunderstanding. So basically, we were talking about the same thing but using different terminology? Essentially Category:Credit unions of Alberta and Category:Credit unions of Manitoba would be deleted and their contents upmerged to (1) Category:Credit unions of Canada and either of (2) Category:Credit unions of Alberta or Category:Credit unions of Manitoba? Doug Mehus (talk) 20:08, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes indeed we were talking about the same thing but using different terminology. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:15, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Credit unions of Manitoba[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge, also to Category:Companies based in Manitoba. MER-C 17:52, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: As per WP:SMALLCAT and, possibly, WP:TRIVIALCAT, I propose to merge Category:Credit unions of Manitoba, containing only three credit unions of questionable nobility, and merging the (current) trio of credit unions in to Category:Credit unions of Canada. Alternatively, we could just delete this category and tag the trio with the latter, larger category if they aren't already. Doug Mehus (talk) 16:58, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fayenatic london, How do you "double merge" without listing "Credit unions of Canada" as a sub-cat of Credit unions of Manitoba, though? We don't want that to happen. And, for clarity, when all is said and done, by merging, it's effectively a delete in that Category:Credit unions of Manitoba will no longer exist, right?--Doug Mehus (talk) 16:17, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, merger puts the contents of the nominated category into the target category/categories. The original category page is usually then deleted; sometimes it is useful to keep a redirect, but not in this case. – Fayenatic London 15:23, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Double merge, so that the articles stay in the Manitoba companies tree. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:47, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 02:36, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: As per WP:SMALLCAT and, possibly, WP:TRIVIALCAT, I propose to delete Category:Credit union centrals of Canada, containing only Canadian Credit Union Association, as that is already tagged/included in Category:Credit unions of Canada, Category:Credit union leagues, and possibly could be further added to a Canadian lobby group category. Category:Nautical captains by watercraft type[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: upmerge. (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 02:36, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Same reason as the larger Category:Nautical captains discussion. Most common name. TM 14:37, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upmerge to the sole parent, as it adds nothing useful for navigation. – Fayenatic London 09:48, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • That is a fair point. Change vote into: prefer merge, else rename. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:52, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would also support merging.--TM 14:53, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Nautical captains[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 02:37, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Rename to match article sea captain and most common name. A Google search reveals 3.4 million hits for sea captain and only 79,000 hits for nautical captain. TM 14:09, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Namiba, Support with the caveat that Nautical captains becomes either a hard or soft redirect as many people will still search for, and add, "Nautical captains" to associated articles. This is a perfect example of when to have a category redirect. Doug Mehus (talk) 01:01, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
