The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 08:53, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per C2F; any child portals that were listed in these portals before are now deleted, leaving only their respective parent portals. ToThAc (talk) 16:50, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: speedy renamed. Renamed by JJMC89 bot III. (non-admin closure) ToThAc (talk) 13:14, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any point in discussing this when the requested move closed with this exact consensus. (non-admin closure) ToThAc (talk) 23:24, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: C2D per Sudanese Revolution. Charles Essie (talk) 15:11, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @ToThAc: discussions for speedy renaming are normally left open for at least 48 hours. Besides it looks like you have not actually implemented the rename. When you are closing a discussion, it becones your responsibility to implement it as well. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:34, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle: That's just because I'm technically prevented from moving the category. ToThAc (talk) 12:31, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @ToThAc: I have removed the closing template. It gave administrators a false impression that the discussion is entirely settled while in fact nothing happened. You should not close discussions if you do not have the means to implement the outcome. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:01, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Marcocapelle: Okay, apologies for the confusion. ToThAc (talk) 14:55, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:International sports competitions hosted by x[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename all to use "in <city>" (non-admin closure) DannyS712 (talk) 00:45, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The Category:International sports competitions by city has two naming types "hosted by x" and "in x". I suggest these all be changed to "in x" for reasons of simplicity and also semantic reasons as large sports events are typically hosted through a combination of resources (city, national, regional, international, commercial, etc.) so the "hosted by" naming suggests a highly specific scenario which may not apply to the current contents in many cases. SFB 14:25, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support standardization, without any preference for "in" or "hosted by". Marcocapelle (talk) 05:41, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom, as "in" makes no assumption as to who is the actual organizer of the competition, while "hosted by" could lead to assume that local government plays a role. Place Clichy (talk) 09:20, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support but I wonder if "... held in …" might not be even better. Hosted by <city> might refer to the city council, but that is not necessarily the body responsible. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:50, 15 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 08:56, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Category is populated by all redirects, excluding one page to which all the redirects lead. The one article already exists in the parent category. The redirects are all minor characters whose inclusion in a category is not necessary for useful navigation. TTN (talk) 12:48, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Clothing manufacturers[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: do not merge. MER-C 08:57, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Clothing companies design, manufacture, sub-contract manufacture, distribute and sell their clothing in different combinations which vary over time (though its often hard to tell from the articles where the clothes actually come from). There is a separate Category:Clothing retailers for those which dont actually produce any. This category is superfluous. Category:Clothing companies is subcategorised both by country and by different sorts of clothing. Rathfelder (talk) 12:26, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • But hardly any of these clothing companies only manufacture the clothing. In fact most of them, I think, subcontract the manufacturing. Rathfelder (talk) 20:04, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • If they subcontract manufacturing, they should be purged, obviously. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:13, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose -- The target would also include clothing retailers (and wholesalers). Peterkingiron (talk) 16:51, 15 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 08:54, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Rathfelder (talk) 08:53, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, WP:C2C per Category:People by university or college in Europe. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:57, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, per C2C and consensus in CfD. However, categories at the national level with use Category:Heads of universities in..., following recent moves, should probably also be moved to Category:Heads of universities and colleges in... Place Clichy (talk) 09:29, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • In most of the national categories there are no articles about heads of colleges.Rathfelder (talk) 20:06, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per recent consensus, but we need a separate category for any who are ceremonial or titular heads. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:53, 15 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
While in principle I agree with Peterkingiron in reality its often impossible to tell from the articles. Rathfelder (talk) 10:11, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per above points, as university, college, institute, institution, academy and other classifications can vary, and agree with the specific point that we need a separate category for any who are ceremonial / titular heads.SeoR (talk) 20:28, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 08:56, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT for a single photograph, eponymous on the name of a person who isn't even the image's principal subject of interest. Chasten isn't independently notable in his own right, but is known only as the spouse of a presidential candidate, and accordingly just has a redirect to his husband's BLP rather than his own standalone article. And furthermore, this image is eponymously categorized solely for Chasten, and not at all for Pete even though he's in it too — which is obviously not to say that it should be categorized on Pete either, because that would still be overcategorization. As always, we do not obsessively file photographs into a comprehensive scheme of eponymous categories for every individual person who happens to be in the image — most people don't warrant their own eponymous categories at all, and the not independently notable spouse of a presidential candidate is firmly in that bucket.
