Nominator's rationale: i find the idea of grouping real, individual objects with named angels from verious religions, and calling those, but NOTHING else, individual non human entities, either too broad or too narrow. we need to establish what an entity is, is it a human concept like a law or a goverment, which is entirely human defined, or would we also list as non human entities things that are as far as we know human created, but described as existing outside of human society such as angels, demons, etc. im not exactly sure what i am asking, but i think this needs to be discussed. Mercurywoodrose (talk) 22:22, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just delete, the category contains only two subcats that do not share a meaningful characteristic. Oppose Category:individual physical objects, mythological beings for the same reason, physical objects and mythological beings also do not have a meaningful common characteristic. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:06, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just delete -- Both targets already exist and the two have nothing in common apart from individuality. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:47, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete Nothing in common in the contents. Dimadick (talk) 09:22, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per Macrocapelle; and when you dig down a layer or two, much of what's in there aren't individual objects but articles on the types of items. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 21:59, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Political music[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename and split. bibliomaniac15 02:43, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Most of the articles and subcats refer to people or groups, but Political music redirects to Music and politics. Fuddle (talk) 12:16, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose this renaming, but some cleaning up definitely needed. Original creator of category here. I'm not opposed to a category for "political musical groups" (although maybe that should be "political music groups") but not based on the nominator's characterization of the category, which is incorrect. It has multiple subcategories. Yes, "groups" ("anarcho-punk groups"), but also works ("political music albums", "political songs") and genres / themes (nueva cancion, political music genres, anti-fascist music) and categories collecting articles about music in particular movements (Music in the movement against apartheid, Rock in Opposition).
Suggest (1) the category may be appropriately renamed "Category:Music and politics".
(2) Diffusion should be something like: "Political music artists" (defining characteristic) and "Political music movements" and "Political music works".
--Lquilter (talk) 17:28, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support (1) and (2). Category:Music and politics matches the article. Subcats could separate topics from persons and groups. Fuddle (talk) 18:50, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support 1 & 2 per Lquilter, and Puddle's amendment. Most of the political music I can think of comes from individuals rather than groups, so the initial solution was flawed. Grutness...wha? 03:42, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support 1 & 2 -- The headnote would justify it being Category:Political musicians or Category:Political musical performers, but Category:Political songs would not fit in that. However, I strongly suspect that many of the groups are not wholly plugging their species of politics. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:52, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support 1 & 2 Category:Music and politics seems to have a wider scope. Diffusion is possible once the scope of the parent category is better defined. Dimadick (talk) 09:25, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete some would contend that all art is political, but without necessarily adhering to that how can one objectively define what music is or was political at some point. Every 4 years in the US, groups make it be known that they don't want their music played at rallies for certain politicians - does that make ALL their music political, or even ANY of their music political? If not all art is political (and music by extension), I daresay that one can be political and product apolitical music (as much as atheists can write hymns...). The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 11:14, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Propose merging:
Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, just one article in each of these category and they are not part of a large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme. This is follow-up on this earlier discussion; @BrownHairedGirl and WilliamJE: pinging contributors to that discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:49, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge all per nominator, without prejudice re-creating any of them if and when that category can be populated with at least 5 existing articles. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 08:19, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge all per nominator. ItsPugle (please use {{ping|ItsPugle}} on reply) 08:28, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT with only a single redirect. We'll never create enough encyclopedic articles to populate this category. Shooterwalker (talk) 03:51, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:08, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete The only redirect here is not to an actual colony. The list where it redirects defines as a place of assembly where a tribal community meets in case of emergency. Dimadick (talk) 09:28, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Pluralize category, because there were two and we have two articles about them: April 2015 Nepal earthquake and May 2015 Nepal earthquake. The second was an aftershock of the first but I'm not sure that this is a good reason to refer to it as a singular earthquake. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:05, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
