The result of the discussion was: move to Category:Megaphone (podcasting) (non-admin closure) Mdaniels5757 (talk) 17:45, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Consistency with main article's name. Wasn't sure if WP:C2D ambiguity criteria applied here. -- 2pou (talk) 19:58, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per WP:C2D. With an ambiguator included in the article name it is no longer ambiguous. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:09, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: keep. (non-admin closure) Mdaniels5757 (talk) 17:44, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Small category containing only the eponymous article and associated subcategories. User:Namiba 19:01, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Almost every single category in that series has the same characteristics. 1-3 articles and the subcategories.--User:Namiba 16:16, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Then all state categories should be nominated. Upon further look, it may make more sense to nominate the events subcategories of all states for merger. Marcocapelle (talk) 00:41, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - how can it be a small category with 211 pages at the top level of one of its subcats? (A page in a subcat is automatically a member of the parent.) Oculi (talk) 19:37, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Western Downs Region smallcats[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Propose merging:
2-page categories
3-page categories
Nominator's rationale: per WP:SMALLCAT. Each of these categories for small places in the Western Downs Region in Queensland are tiny, with little chance of expansion. They all currently contain 2 or 3 pages: the head article plus one or two others. I haven't found any other articles to expand the categories.
As with many New South Wales locations, category creation for Queensland locations seems to have been a bit indiscriminate. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:43, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Shire of Pittsworth[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. bibliomaniac15 22:12, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: per WP:SMALLCAT: it currently contains only two items: the head article Shire of Pittsworth, and Pittsworth Shire Council Chambers and Shire Hall.
The Shire of Pittsworth was a local government entity in Queensland from 1913 until 2008. I haven't included this in the group nomination below for #Toowoomba Region smallcats ... because unlike those categories, this one could theoretically be expanded to include all the localities which were within its territory.
However, we don't usually categorise geography by former local govt areas, because that would create category clutter on many geographical articles whose local govt units had changed ... so I reckon that it shouldn't be expanded in that way. A category for a former local govt unit should contain only articles relating to the former unit's administration and politics.
On that basis, the category shouldn't be expanded beyond the existing two articles, which leaves it as a SMLALLCAT, which should be deleted. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:43, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: per WP:SMALLCAT. Both of these categories for small places in the Sunshine Coast Region in Queensland are tiny, with little chance of expansion. They all currently contain 2 or 3 pages: the head article plus one or two others. North Coast Roadside Rest Areas is common to both categories, so that's a total of 4 articles in the two categories.
I haven't found any other articles to expand the categories.

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. bibliomaniac15 22:15, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This category was previously populated by {{WikiProject Prussia}}, deleted in 2010. Two category members, Friedrich W. K. Müller and Prince Oscar of Prussia (born 1959), remained, with the category being placed in article space (unlike more modern "needs infobox" categories). The latter had an infobox already and I added a former to clear out this template, which will likely never be used again. Raymie (tc) 06:35, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: move to Category:ISO 639-3 avoided double redirects. bibliomaniac15 22:09, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: From the description, this should be called "Circular ISO 639-3 redirects" or even "ISO 639-3 avoided double redirects". 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 16:50, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete unless someone can identify a useful workflow that uses this category. Categorization of redirects like this appears to be makework and is effort that could probably be better spent elsewhere (e.g. fixing problems with categorization of articles). • Delete per Marcocapelle. The nomination has been open for 5 weeks, and in that time nobody has clarified the purpose of this category. So there's no reason to keep it.
Note that the category creator, User:Kwamikagami, was notified by Twinkle. They responded by just removing the notification[1] ... which I take as a lack of interest in its fate. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:29, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move. Maybe 'ISO 639-3 avoided double redirects' would be best. The category links in all the member articles also need to be changed.
The purpose of these categories is to give reasons that a bot (so far PotatoBot) will find exceptions when comparing an ISO code and its expected target. Ideally, every ISO code, and the name associated to that ISO code, will link to the same WP article, and the infobox in that article will include the ISO code. But there are hundreds of exceptions. Often this is because articles have been split, merged, or otherwise moved, but the rd for the ISO code was not corrected to match (most editors won't know to do that), and so the ISO rd needs to be cleaned up. But sometimes there's a legitimate reason for the mismatch. By keeping categories of the exceptions, we reduce the amount of redundant work needed to keep the ISO rd's functioning. — kwami (talk) 23:03, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. bibliomaniac15 21:15, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Tierra Caliente is a region within the state of Michoacán in Mexico and Category:Musical groups from Michoacán already exists, so diffusion certainly isn't necessary. An option would be to rename to Category:Tierra Caliente music groups, to reflect the style of music (see Tierra Caliente music) they play rather than the region the groups are from. Nominator's rationale: Category:State schools in Nigeria would follow a pattern, but I don't know what they're actually called in Nigeria, and the two articles don't help. Fuddle (talk) 19:42, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, not a defining characteristic. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:07, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Of course it's defining, just like it is in the other subcats of Category:State schools. I can't see a problem with the title either. Many countries call state-run schools "government schools". -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:53, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The whole tree of Category:State schools may be nominated for merge. Schools that aren't private schools aren't specifically known as state schools because that is the default. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:34, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • In many countries there are more private secondary schools than state secondary schools, so I'm not at all sure it is the default. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:40, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
