Nominator's rationale: Merge and redirect. The parent has just been renamed from Category:Eloise to match the main article Eloise (books). Both categories are in similar parents, which should be merged onto the target category page. – Fayenatic London 22:12, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:19, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Was created with inappropriate name: article on the DS is at title Kotte Divisional Secretariat. See User talk:PamD#Category:Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte DS Division. PamD 15:40, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wait, I read in the article about Colombo District that it has 2.3 million people and is divided in no less than 566 of these divisions. Are these divisions really notable? Marcocapelle (talk) 17:14, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is not comparable to villages, it is rather comparable to when we would hypothetically divide Los Angeles into units of 4,000 people. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:51, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reluctantly support, per WP:C2D, but the articles of this tree should probably be AFD'd. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:51, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: keep. bibliomaniac15 05:58, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Unclear scope; includes religious leaders, politicians belonging to a Hindu nationalist party, and authors who wrote about Hinduism. Also unclear what "Hindu activist" could even mean. Viable subcategories already exist (eg "Indian Hindu religious leaders"), so delete. Vanamonde (Talk) 15:31, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: upmerge per WP:SMALLCAT (1-4 articles in each category) and a trivial intersection. Note that Germany and Austria have been omitted from this nomination. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:23, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 13:56, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: A few months ago, this discussion established that we shouldn’t have categories classifying places based on the Romanian administrative system of 1925-1938. I guess we need to spend time on a new discussion to demonstrate to the same user that categories pertaining to the Romanian administrative system of 1938-1940 are also pointless. Biruitorul Talk 13:59, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, we should not categorize places by former national or administrative borders. It is not defining and especially in Europe if it would implemented at a larger scale it would lead to a huge amount of unnecessary category clutter in the articles. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:22, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Place Clichy (talk) 23:06, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:31, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The company "Mojang" was renamed "Mojang Studios" in May. The article and navbox template have followed suit, and so should the category. I did this boldly but was reverted. IceWelder [] 10:19, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: As the creator of the category, I consider this to be a very boilerplate retitle. Let's make it happen. DÅRTHBØTTØ (TC) 15:32, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(Dis)establishments in All-Palestine (Gaza)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge; without prejudice to a follow-up nomination, as discussed. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:32, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale, this is a small-scale follow-up on a more elaborate opposed speedy rename nomination (see collapsed below). The rationale for this is WP:SMALLCAT in combination with the fact that the All-Palestine Protectorate was a hardly a real country, it did not function except for issuing passports and it was recognized by very few other countries. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:16, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
collapsed speedy discussion
@Gonnym and Place Clichy: pinging contributors to speedy discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:16, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Remove these -- The area was known as the "Gaza strip" and everyone treated it as part of Egypt until Israeli conquest in 1967, even if there was a puppet protectorate. The target for the last should be Category:1959 in Gaza strip. Peterkingiron (talk) 20:19, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Peterkingiron: would you agree with the alt merge I propose below? I think it is quite close to what you suggest (the nuance being if it is necessary to keep yearly categories for so few articles). Place Clichy (talk) 13:59, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Obvious oppose. The article, as I've clearly shown, is not at All-Palestine (Gaza). --Gonnym (talk) 01:34, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reluctantly support merge as nom as better than a no consensus outcome, but All-Palestine shouldn't be used in periodization of the history of this region at all. The attempt to establish a government called All-Palestine Government or All-Palestine Protectorate aborted as early as 1948 (see for instance this discussion), and the period between 1948 and 1967 would better be described as something like Egyptian rule in the Gaza Strip. As far as (dis)establishments are concerned, we may just as well stick to a purely geographical designation, and therefore alt merge to Category:Establishments in the Gaza Strip and Category:Disestablishments in the Gaza Strip. Place Clichy (talk) 23:06, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was hoping for more editors participating in this discussion. As it stands, I will propose renaming the entire tree to Gaza Strip in a fresh nomination. Just to be clear, that doesn't mean I am withdrawing this merge nomination, because WP:SMALLCAT still stands. Marcocapelle (talk) 14:10, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: C2D: NCIS (TV series), NCIS - St3095 (?) 07:03, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly yes, speedy Given that without the brackets it would have to apply to the federal organisation rather than the TV series it should this should happen asap. simply for clarity. --AlisonW (talk) 18:44, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Hebrew-language names[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: do not rename/keep. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:44, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Clarityfiend has referred to this as an "idiotic category", and I'm not sure what it is supposed to include or exclude, so I decided to start a discussion here. Is it for articles with titles that are transliterated from Hebrew? Is it for articles whose title is a name for humans which have Hebrew origins? Is it even appropriate to categorize by article title rather than article content? I think not, but that is the status quo here. What should this category be? Also, Dbachmann has suggested that it should be moved to Category:Hebrew names. Daask (talk) 13:50, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't recall the exact edit, but I'm pretty sure I meant "idiotic" in reference to the article it was applied to, not the category itself. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:27, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The category should presumably include articles about Hebrew personal names although admittedly that is not entirely clear. Moving the category name to Category:Hebrew names would not help much in clarifying the scope. Including "personal" in the category name may be more helpful (provided it is also implemented in other language categories). Marcocapelle (talk) 14:56, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment we have a tree Category:Names by language, why is this one being singled out; problems of anglicization and transliteration are inherent in most of them. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:18, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, bibliomaniac15 05:51, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree with Carlossuarez' procedural oppose. All sibling categories should be nominated simultaneously. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:55, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm not even sure this is a properly formatted discussion. Recommend closing without prejudice if action needs to be taken, but I don't support doing anything with this - seems to be a proper category. SportingFlyer T·C 06:41, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SportingFlyer: I'll readily confess I'm unsure about the proper format for this discussion. However, I'm confused by your opposition to any action. I ask a number of questions in the nomination that I still don't know the answer to. I'm fine with Fayenatic london and Marcocapelle's suggestion of redefining the category to human personal names, but that's a substantial change from the status quo; many articles here are not human names. Daask (talk) 20:13, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm opposing having any changes happen as an outcome of this specific discussion. I don't oppose any possible change. SportingFlyer T·C 20:30, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:BlackAFinSTEM[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:47, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: According to CNN, this is the name of an online space shared by several people involved with Black Birders Week. It is also a Twitter account. I put this up for discussion because it seems outside the scope of our usual categorization and I'm not sure how we're supposed to determine inclusion. Presumably it isn't meant to include all African-Americans in STEM. gobonobo + c 03:51, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I created the category to list all Wikipedia articles about notable members of the collective with the same name. It is an organized group and has been extensively covered by reliable secondary sources with details about their objectives and activities. It has a companion Wikidata item BlackAFinSTEM (Q96085129) linked to the items of the corresponding members and holding additional information about the collectivee. The category serves a pretty well-defined purpose and I am not sure about the purpose of deleting it since it's similar to many other categories about organizations and collectives. --DarTar (talk) 03:59, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep The category has the purpose of listing all the articles about the notable members of the collective. Both the collective and many of its notable members have been and continue to be currently covered in reliable secondary sources. I'm in favour of keeping it. --Ambrosia10 (talk) 04:07, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as non-defining (e.g. not currently mentioned in the Corina Newsome article). It would be more appropriate to have an article (e.g. BlackAFinSTEM which is currently a redlink) which would mention some/all of these people. Note also that we generally prefer to categorize people in set categories (e.g. Founders of X) than in topic categories to avoid subjectiveness. DexDor (talk) 05:30, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and create article. The article may contain a list of members. This is not suitable as a membership category, even for the founder Jason Ward (naturalist) it is a minor characteristic. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:06, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete not a defining characteristic for an individual article, but I highly suggest creating a topic on this. SportingFlyer T·C 06:39, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Per WP:OCASSOC. So that no work is lost if anyone wants to create an article, I copied the current category contents here. RevelationDirect (talk) 10:15, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per non-defining and being a meaningless abbreviation (what does it mean?). An article if really appropriate (but I have my doubts). --AlisonW (talk) 18:40, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The name means Black as fuck in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). It's possible that BlackAFinSTEM could warrant a stand-alone article and I'd support this category once one exists. gobonobo + c 20:42, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Whether the category is defining has nothing to do with whether there's a standalone article for the topic, this still won't be defining once an article is created. SportingFlyer T·C 14:13, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 13:56, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCAWARD)
The Astrid Lindgren Prize is an award for children's authors writing in Swedish named after Astrid Lindgren. There is another, similar award also named after her called the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award which is more prominent while this award seems relatively obscure. Within the articles, this Astrid Lindgren award seems non-defining and is generally mentioned in passing or not at all, although a few have it in the intro. The contents of the category are already listified here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:38, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 13:56, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCAWARD)
The San Diego Film Awards main article was deleted here in AFD due to lack of WP:NOTABILITY and concern that banned editors were spamming to promote an event. In contrast, the standard with this category is WP:DEFINING and, of the 5 articles in the category, 4 don't mention the award at all and 1 ("Shotgun" Tom Kelly) mentions it in passing. This doesn't seem like it would aid navigation and the creator is also blocked. I saved the current category contents here for reference. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:38, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
