Category:Death in Riverside County[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus to delete, but rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:10, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Clarify that the category pertains to a county in California, and not elsewhere. Including the state name follows standards used in other categories. OvertAnalyzer (talk) 23:05, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy rename per WP:C2C. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:59, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete we don't need to divide these buy counties (the only other one currently there is LA county, which can go after this one). We haven't divided most of the people who died in X state into their counties and probably not needed. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 01:13, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy rename. While I didn't create the category, and I initially thought it seemed like an odd category, I decided to start putting articles in the category to see how it worked out. I feel this type of category should be viewed as something different than "people who died in x" county or state. Riverside County has some unique articles that I thought fell into the category, such as Elizabeth Bouvia (a national right to die case), Death of Gloria Ramirez (a national news story of a mysterious death), and Tyisha Miller (a national news story of a black woman killed by police). Also certain crimes and news events that involved death in Riverside County. I did not include anyone that happened to die in Riverside, County. That would be a long list, and I thought that would better be in a category "Deaths in Riverside County, California" ("death" with an "s"), but since there are no categories for "Deaths in x County", I didn't go there. (I don't know if I am supposed to be voting, since I posted the original rename request, but I thought you might be interested in my perspective on the matter.)OvertAnalyzer (talk) 02:23, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete/Speedy Rename if Kept I don't think adding the county layer aids navigation. If kept, by all means rename per WP:C2D. RevelationDirect (talk) 20:44, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Converts to Eastern Catholicism from the Assyrian Church of the East[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: withdrawn. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:09, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Converts to Eastern Catholicism from the Assyrian Church of the East has five pages. The five persons in question lived and died long before 1976, when the name "Assyrian Church of the East" was adopted. The Assyrian Church of the East claims to be the continuation of the church that they left, the "Nestorian" Church of the East. So does the Ancient Church of the East. (So indeed does the Eastern Catholic Church that they became members of: the Chaldean Catholic Church.) For each of the five individuals "Category:Converts to Eastern Catholicism from the Assyrian Church of the East" should be changed to "Category:Converts to Eastern Catholicism from the Church of the East". Bealtainemí (talk) 20:04, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment, the history of the Church of the East is very confusing between 1552 and 1830. For three articles in this category (people who lived in this confusing period) the rename may make sense and the current category name seems inappropriate, for the two other articles (about modern people) the current category name also makes sense. Sorry I am not providing an actual solution here. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:53, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose in my opinion there were some procedural errors in starting this CFD, the intention whether to delete or merge is not explicitly stated, as well as no template was added to the category in question. Not all five subjects whose articles are in this category are, as the nominator claims, "died long before 1976". Bawai Soro is still alive in fact and his conversation from the Assyrian Church of the East to the Chalcedonian Catholic Church is well cited in the article. So my final !vote would be keep and purge if necessary, also per consistency with the  Category:Members of the Assyrian Church of the East category family. Inter&anthro (talk) 19:07, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Çomment. You are right and I was quite wrong with regard to Bawai Soro. Abraham Shimonaya became a Chaldean well before 1976. The line of patriarchs that Shimun VIII Yohannan Sulaqa founded is the line of the Assyrian Church of the East, so how do we say he was a convert from the Assyrian Church of the East? The church that he broke away from to form his own line of patriarchs was what has been called the "legitimist" line of the Church of the East. It was this legitimist line, not that of Sulaqa and the Assyrian Church of the East, that Joseph I (Chaldean Patriarch) broke away from. The same holds for Yohannan VIII Hormizd, who was in fact illicitly elected successor to the legitimist line of patriarchs of the Church of the East. It was so obviously false to categorize these three, especially Sulaqa, as converts from the Assyrian Church of the East that i mistakenly jumped to the conflusion that the whole list was wrong. I apologize for my mistake and leave it to wiser heads that mine to solve the present highly curious categorization. Bealtainemí (talk) 20:24, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment For lack of support and for other reasons, I withdraw, if I may, my renaming proposal. I will remove from the articles on the three for whom the categorization is evidently false the indication that what they left was the "Assyrian Church of the East": one of them originated the patriarchate that in 1976 took that name, and they other two belonged to a patriarchate that opposed the patriarchate that he set up and that has adopted the name "Assyrian Church of the East". Suburbs of Toowoomba smallcats[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: manually merge as WP:SOFTDELETE. – Fayenatic London 12:35, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Propose manually deleting:
2-page categories
  1. Category:Mount Lofty, Queensland
3-page categories
  1. Category:Middle Ridge, Queensland
  2. Category:Redwood, Queensland
Nominator's rationale: per WP:SMALLCAT. Each of these 3 subcats of Category:Suburbs of Toowoomba , Australia is tiny, and likely to have little chance of expansion. They each currently contain only the head article plus one or two other pages.
In each case, the head article is already in Category:Suburbs of Toowoomba (so no need to merge), and the other pages don't belong in Category:Suburbs of Toowoomba (so merger would be wrong). But the categories should be manually checked to ensure that all pages are adequately categorised.
I haven't checked for the availability of other articles to expand the categories; there are too many of these Australian smallcats to check. However, I make the nomination without prejudice to re-creating any of them which can be legitimately populated with more than five pages.
As with many New South Wales locations, the creation of geographical subcats in Queensland has been indiscriminate. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:05, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep There seems to be scope for expansion here. Dimadick (talk) 16:30, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep or Merge w/ Caveats I am agnostic as to whether to upmerge from "American" to a more global scope, or if "ebm" and "electro" are to be merged, but I am emphatic that EBM/electro-industrial should not be merged into "industrial rock"; Use "industrial" for all of them, maybe, but there is academic study on the topic of genre-splintering in industrial music (see Reed (2013), Hanley (2011, dissertation), and Woods (2007, thesis))-- t_kiehne (talk) 02:03, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, but - is there any reason why one category is "musical" and the others are "music"? Shouldn't it be Cat:Fooian industrial rock music groups? I'd suggest a rename might be in order... Grutness...wha? 04:24, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • My rationale all along has been that a category like Category:Electro-industrial music groups only has 100+ entries and doesn't need to be diffused by nationality, especially someone's is just creating them for one nation. The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Dan Balan. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:07, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: 3 articles (4 counting the singer's own article) doesn't warrant an eponymous category. WP:OCEPON. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:34, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It appears this category was nominated twice before 10 years ago: the first time by a known sockpuppet, in which no discussion even took place (see CfD 2010 Sep 17); and the second time, in a failed bundled nomination of eponymous categories that defaulted to keep (see CfD 2010 Dec 18). StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 02:31, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Interesting. So that means that subcategories need to be renamed/merged as well. Then this nomination can better be put on hold. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:13, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Good find with Dan Balan material and I'd support Oculi's rename suggestion. Couldn't the Crazy Loop subcats then be speedied from the result of this? StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 20:55, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: These appear to be duplicate categories. Uttar Pradesh Technical University redirects to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University and the article indicates that the former is a past name of the latter. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:56, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
