The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:User la-5, redirecting template {{User la}}. – Fayenatic London 09:32, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: No such thing as a native Latin speaker exists for centuries. There are advanced speakers, (I personally know a couple of professional Latin teachers, but native? Not possible). Alexf(talk) 18:28, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:36, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete There have been no native speakers since the 9th century. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 06:39, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge to one of the other User la categories (professional level?). Latin is (I believe) the official language of the Vatican and was the language used in monasteries until at least the 16th century, , but I do not believe there are any native speakers. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:48, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge there are no native speakers, but we should keep a category for latin speaker. I would propose implementing this by redirecting {{User la}} (the template for native speakers) to {{User la-4}} (the template for near native speakers). Does this sound good @Alexf, Marcocapelle, LaundryPizza03, and Peterkingiron:? --Trialpears (talk) 17:38, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:African-American university presidents[edit]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:African-American university administrators, which should now be put forward for discussion as a separate nomination. I used a PetScan to identify any that were missing from Category:Heads of universities and colleges in the United States, and merged those there manually. – Fayenatic London 09:21, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Not all colleges are universities. We recently renamed WP:WikiProject Universities to WP:WikiProject Higher Education because of this concern, and the parent category of this category is Category:Heads of universities and colleges in the United States. People like G. Gabrielle Starr (president of Pomona College) belong in this category, since there's no Category:African-American college presidents, but can't be safely put here until it's renamed. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 03:49, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, bibliomaniac15 18:09, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Completely fair question. Some articles will already be in a subcategory of presidents by university, others not, so this will require a manual merge. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:00, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have nothing more to add; the administrator's race is irrelevant unless someone can show that administrators of one race do something materially different to those of another race. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:12, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fayenatic london, oh, I'd forgotten about this nom. I'm not enough of a category expert to be able to address most of the questions raised here (although I would note that there has been a bunch of media interest in the intersection of African American identity and college/university presidency, e.g. [1]). My main interest is just making sure that the categories reflect the existence of colleges as well as universities. To that end, it looks like Category:African-American university administrators should be renamed as well, and possibly other related categories in this realm. How would it be best to roll these into the nomination? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 22:17, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge (edit conflict) per the recent discussion above - I agree and have nothing more to add. SportingFlyer T·C 21:34, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 19:04, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: These categories are being used to list topics related to individual Sustainable Development Goals. Many of the categories' members are broad topics (e.g. ocean, coast, sewage). It is unclear what defining characteristics are being used or how this manner of categorization is compatible with the existing category tree. gobonobo + c 16:54, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Huangmei opera singers & Category:Cantonese opera singers[edit]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 19:37, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Chinese opera performers are more actors rather than singers, and not all of them are singers. The old categories have long histories which should be preserved. New categories are unnecessary because renaming would suffice. Seanetienne (talk) 15:41, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
