Nominator's rationale: Not defining. Rathfelder (talk) 21:13, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge, plain membership of an organization is hardly ever defining. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:29, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Being defined by just membership in a group is super rare, e.g. learned societies and terrorist groups. RevelationDirect (talk) 02:03, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Venomous insects[edit]

Nominator's rationale: It is unclear whether these categories are for insects for whom insect stings/bites are medically significant (for humans) or for all insects with venom. If the former then that's subjective.  If the latter then there are thousands of species (e.g. many wasps, ants etc) that would belong in the category. If an insect would be capable of hurting a human, but rarely/never does (e.g. because they don't encounter each other) then would it belong in the category? Note: Category:Venomous spiders was deleted partly for similar reasons. DexDor (talk) 18:50, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Fails WP:OCAWARD, which requires the award be a defining characteristic of the notable person. No one is notable simply for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 02:42, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, my iVote is updated. RevelationDirect (talk) 12:43, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete All Three WP:OCAWARD requires that "A category of award recipients should exist only if receiving the award is a defining characteristic for the large majority of its notable recipients" and I'm having trouble finding any articles that are defined by it in the dozens I clicked through. I assume it actually would be defining to the self identity of many younger people for a couple years up until the point where they accomplish other things that make them notable and, therefore, eligible for a Wikipedia article. RevelationDirect (talk) 05:52, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all three per nom and RevelationDirect. I will tag the other category. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:38, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all three. I am not an American, but I can not see that these categories are defining for adults who have a Wikipedia article for what they have achieved as adults, any more than Queen's Scout is for British or Australian adults. --Bduke (talk) 09:41, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as non-defining (and not a standard biographical category such as nationality). Note: The 2007 CFD (delete) and DRV (overturn) consisted basically of disagreement between categorizers saying it's non-defining (for wp categorization) and scouters using arguments that (imo) amount to ILIKEIT, OSE etc.  The DRV was closed by admin Johntex who was hardly an impartial observer e.g. he had a scouting barnstar from Rlevse who was one of those arguing to overturn. DexDor (talk) 15:49, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete non-defining, per nom. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 21:29, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as relevant to the listed people. Philly jawn (talk) 02:04, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep the first one Immensely important award acknowledged as impacting their life and career and as an attribute of the individual. For example, the impact of this being denied to girls was one of the driving forces for full admission of girls into BSA.North8000 (talk) 03:05, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • This example is not relevant, as it does not show that the characteristic is defining for the individual people in this category. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:07, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Youth wings of Green parties[edit]

Nominator's rationale: I don't think we need to capitalize "Green". Other articles and categories do not categorize it: List of green political parties, Category:Defunct green political parties. I have brought this here rather than WP:CFDS because the case is at least arguable. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:11, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Former ruling Communist parties[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 13:22, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: As currently phrased, this could mean either communist parties that were once ruling parties or communist parties that were once ruling parties and are now defunct. Based on the category definition, it is meant to be the former, so I suggest changing "former" to the adverb "formerly" so it is clear that that word modifies the verb "ruling". (Also change caps on "Communist" to "communist".) A similar naming approach is used for Category:Formerly banned political parties and its subcategories. Nominator's rationale: There is no reason to use this obscure name which mixed English and Japanese. There is an article for the franchise which should simply be the namesake of the category. ★Trekker (talk) 00:40, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 13:34, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:OCAWARD (WP:NONDEFINING)
The Piepenbrock Prize for Sculpture was a private award given to sculptors in the "German-speaking world" from 1998 to 2008. Of the 8 biographies in this category 6 mention the award in passing, 2 don't mention it at all, and none mention it in the lede so it doesn't seem defining. The recipients are already listified here in the main article. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:17, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 13:34, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:RCAT
No conceptual problem with this category but we don't have any actual articles on this topic. What we do have are 4 redirects all pointing to Royal College, Colombo#Awards. WP:RCAT does allow for multiple reasons to categorize redirects and this is not one of them, but no objection to recreating later if we ever get up to 5 or so actual articles. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:17, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This category contains only North America's Forgotten Past and four redirects to that article. No merge would be necessary because the article is appropriately categorized. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:14, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
