The result of the discussion was: delete. bibliomaniac15 03:08, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, apparently a too small ethnicity to categorize users by. The only user is already in the relevant parent categories too. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:12, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: keep. bibliomaniac15 03:08, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Already covered in Category:Television stations in Philadelphia Mvcg66b3r (talk) 18:41, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Keep The Lehigh Valley is a stand-alone metropolitan statistical area and media market separate from Philadelphia and this category designates stations that should not be placed in the Philadelphia category and properly belong in this category and the broader Lehigh Valley category. These stations are not just based in the Lehigh Valley but serve that market alone and are not received in Philadelphia, so it is not a duplicate category in any respect; it is a necessary one. Keystone18 (talk) 18:46, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Keystone18. The fact that notable stations exist in the Lehigh Valley that do not broadcast in Philadelphia shows that the categories are not redundant to one another. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 17:34, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename all. bibliomaniac15 03:09, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per the WikiProject's recent name change. What about moving all of the subcategories without messing up the assessment framework? --Another Believer (Talk) 18:23, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In theory they should all be tagged, but this is a case for WP:IAR – an admin should just move them all under WP:G6. – Fayenatic London 08:39, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 12:26, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The taxonomic term 'Propionibacterineae' has fallen into disuse. The term which is currently in use, Propionibacteriales, encompasses the same taxa as the former 'Propionibacterineae'. Ninjatacoshell (talk) 00:47, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rename per nom. * Pppery * it has begun... 17:44, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that the new name reflects more than just general usage in the field. Apparently, it's been raised from a suborder within some parent order to an order alongside others. Uporządnicki (talk) 14:17, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Abjad writing systems[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: keep. bibliomaniac15 03:13, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete, largely overlaps with Category:Semitic writing systems. If kept, rename to Category:Abjads per main article title Abjad. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:56, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • For easy reference, abjad = writing system representing only consonants. This category currently contains Egyptian hieroglyphs as well as Semitic scripts. Hieroglyphs are a mixture of consonants and other symbols e.g. whole words, so it is debatable whether that article belongs here. If not kept, a manual merge would be required, as e.g. Elymaic is not otherwise in the target category, but perhaps belongs in Category:Aramaic alphabet. – Fayenatic London 09:51, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep but rename per nom. It's probably true that most abjads are Semitic, but there are enough exceptions and the concept is sufficiently broad to warrant inclusion. I also think there's room for growth here. - CRGreathouse (t | c) 02:40, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. Semitic writing systems are not the same as Abjadi writing systems, and examples like Maltese in the former and Pitman shorthand in the latter well demonstrate this. Semitic is a language family that due to the tri-consonantal root structure are very effectively written using abjads. Abjads are writing systems with a distinct form and function that can be used for writing many languages. VanIsaac, LLE contWpWS 19:34, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- I did not know the term abjad, but it is clearly a defining characteristic. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:48, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 12:27, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Seems to be an unencyclopedic cross-categorization. Unless the soldier is a supersoldier (and there's already a category for that), the fact that they appear in a sci-fi setting isn't defining. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 21:23, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support There is not much distinction by genre in the depictions of soldiers. Dimadick (talk) 06:19, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- SCience fiction and military fiction are quite distinct genres. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:17, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd assume "fictional soldiers" does not solely apply to military fiction, but all soldiers in all fiction, so this argument doesn't seem to make sense. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 09:28, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Not a defining characteristic. Does not tell you anything about what the music videos share in common as "being shot in X location" can also mean shot in a studio or generic set in said location and not necessarily featuring scenery from said location >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 20:26, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose This seems to be an extension of Category:Films by shooting location and seems a useful way to demonstrate a city's impact in the industry. Dimadick (talk) 05:36, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That is speculation. How is a music video being shot in a particular location demonstrating a city's impact in the industry? Almost every city will have scenery or studio sets that could be used in a music video. Where something is shot might have little or no input into the final content i.e. the content might not feature anything from the location. Music videos featuring New York City would be a different argument but its akin to having categories for Novels written in x location - it doesn't really have any bearing. Films by shooting location are different because films have a much bigger impact on the economy in terms of jobs etc and films are a much bigger production, take longer periods of team and quite often are filmed on location i.e. the location is integral to the story or feature extensively in the film. This can't be said for music videos universally. >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 16:49, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, these categories do not contain music videos, they contain songs. Location of the music video is not a defining characteristic of the song. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:23, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Qwerfjkltalk 16:47, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - as Marcocapelle states, the contents are songs, not music videos. So an accurate title would be 'Songs with music videos shot in X', which would be deleted on sight. Oculi (talk) 16:59, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Saigon is the former name of Ho Chi Minh City and previously was the capital of former South Vietnam from 1955 to 1975. Although "Saigon" is commonly used to refer to the present-day Ho Chi Minh City's central business districts, the subjects included in this category were born in Saigon during its time in South Vietnam and fled as refugees following the fall of Saigon in 1975. As per WP:SMALLCAT, there should not be separate categories for cities with their old names. Toadboy123 (talk) 01:42, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
