The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Hidden begin with deprecated parameters. This is on me for not paying attention to what I am typing. It doesn't require a discussion, "deprecated" is correct. (non-admin closure) Terasail[✉️] 18:28, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The correct word is "deprecated" (meaning "no longer used"), not "depreciated" (meaning "the value has gone down"). ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:59, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Aghlabid governors of Sicily[edit]

Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:SMALLCAT, only one article in the category. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:42, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:SMALLCAT: "Avoid categories that, by their very definition, will never have more than a few members...a category which does have realistic potential for growth, such as a category for holders of a notable political office, may be kept even if only a small number of its articles actually exist at the present time". The former does not apply, but the latter definitely does. The Aghlabids ruled Sicily or parts of it for over 80 years, and sent many governors to the island. The article on the Muslim conquest of Sicily includes just the most prominent of them as redlinks. Constantine 11:08, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • A governor of a major island like Sicily, which was the main non-metropolitan province of the Aghlabid emirate, is ipso facto notable. There were governors who were not active in the wars with the Byzantines, just as there were governors who were, just as there were people of the Muslim conquest of Sicily who were not governors. The categories are related, but patently not identical. Constantine 16:44, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I agree with Constantine, though I find "WP:SMALLCAT" to be nonsensical on its own. Small categories are not less useful than larger ones. Dimadick (talk) 00:29, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is not about usefulness (whatever that means) but about easy navigation. Small categories require you to scroll through the category tree to find more related articles. It is much easier when there are links directly in the article to well-populated categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:35, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: [1] indicates that there were around 36 Aghlabid governors. It.wiki has articles for 7 of those and en.wiki has article for four of them. So, I think there is potential for growth. However, that list is uncited... and the articles on en.wiki don't specifically name these individuals as "governors". If it is decided to delete, then the category should be Merged to Category:Governors of Sicily (which would have to be created as a subcat of Category:Rulers of Sicily), since there is an important distinction between people who ruled Sicily in their own right, like the Norman kings, and governors who ruled on behalf of another. The result of the discussion was: split. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 10:00, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: There is an important distinction that needs to be made between Neo-Nazis who are of Jewish descent- which they oftentimes try to hide or deny, and fascists who are openly Jewish and incorporate Jewish identity with fascism. Both the Stern Gang and Frank Colin may be fascists, but a key difference is that the former are proudly Jewish and their Jewish heritage are key to their ideology, while the latter was openly antisemitic and tried to hide the fact that he came from a Jewish family.
Therefore, I suggest that this category should be split, with those that exhibit auto-antisemitism and Nazi sympathies belonging to the latter and the former for those that attempt to synthesize Jewish identity with fascism. HadesTTW (he/him • talk) 03:06, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Then I support. You are right that they are quite different groups. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:00, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. These are different defining characteristics. Dan Burros is the ideal member of "Neo-Nazis of Jewish descent", and he is entirely dissimilar to something like Brit HaBirionim. twsabin 14:47, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. Obviously nonsensical category. Vanjagenije (talk) 23:29, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Incorrect application of categories. There is a List of musical instruments for alphabetical sorting. twsabin 00:31, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: A very odd creation. Seasider53 (talk) 00:36, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The name implies that, of the category of musical instruments, there is a subcategory that are considered alphabetical musical instruments. Categories, of course, already list their members alphabetically (providing DEFAULTSORTs are correctly set and various other tweaks are applied in the Category links in the respective articles). So this seems to serve no purpose. As the nominator notes, the creator (who is newly registered) may not have understood the differences between categories and lists, but we do already have the sortable table at List of musical instruments. Largoplazo (talk) 00:52, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: For the reasons listed above. Should be noted that the creator keeps removing the deletion tag from the category. Why? I Ask (talk) 01:35, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete nonsensical category. Binksternet (talk) 02:17, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I have to confess that I don't even understand what this is for but I have found it annoying popping up all over and I am a bit baffled by its creator's behaviour. We should delete it then the editor should go to the Wikiproject and discuss their objectives. DBaK (talk) 10:35, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/HollywoodREDIRECTOR. Fram (talk) 11:10, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
