Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:OCEGRS, trivial intersection between occupation and gender. The Russian subcategory should be merged rather than deleted, it is not a non-diffusing category. Merge/rename into a category that removes "male"—looking at Category:Men by nationality and occupation, there are plenty of categories with the same criteria, though I think a combination category of ethnicity/gender is unneeded. For example, Category:American male YouTubers could be replaced by Category:American YouTubers/Category:Male YouTubers; for this reason, I oppose deleting Category: Male YouTubers specifically.     @Pppery: Please see Male as norm for an encyclopedic description of the subject. Essentially, categorizing male YouTubers but not female YouTubers is like saying that male should be interpreted as "default" and female as "derivative", rather than both being equal—an example of gender bias on Wikipedia that people have been trying to correct for a long time now.
    For the record, Categories Women by occupation and Men by occupation should be much closer in size to each other. DecafPotato (talk) 00:55, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Male is not the default—categorize both. This has historically been a large issue: see [1] (paywalled) and [2]. If we end up deleting the "male YouTubers" category, which it looks like we probably will, I cannot stress enough that we must delete Category:Female YouTubers as well.     In regards to an example in which a balanced set of categories are not needed, it says:
    As another example, a female heads of government category is valid as a topic of special encyclopedic interest, though it does not need to be balanced directly against a "Male heads of government" category, as historically the vast majority of political leaders have been male. Both male and female heads of government should continue to be filed in the appropriate gender-neutral role category (e.g. Presidents, Monarchs, Prime Ministers, Governors General). Do not create separate categories for male and female occupants of the same position, such as "Male Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom" vs. "Female Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom".
